Sorry about that... :) In "History of the Early Life of Mary Gibbs Bigelow" written by Mary Gibbs Bigelow she comments: "The next I remember my father's brother-in-law (Uncle Clark) came to move us, ready to go on a raft down the Ohio River. That was in the Spring that I was four years old... We went on a raft; we went on below Pittsburgh and sixteen miles below Marietta on the river." Mary Gibbs Bigelow was the daughter of Benjamin Gibbs. Benjamin was Anar's brother and the two families moved from NY to Ohio to Illinois together. Interesting enough... Mary Gibbs married Nahum Bigelow in Illinois and two of their daughters later married Brigham Young. Which is why I have been able to find information on them. In 1813 John Clark and Anner Clark are listed as joining the Columbia Baptist Church in Hamilton Co., Ohio. An Elias Gibbs is shown as joining the church at the same time. This is possibly Anar's brother.. or at least I am wondering if it isn't. And there is a John Clark listed on the tax rolls for Hamilton Co., Ohio for 1812 as is a Justus Gibbs. 1814-1816 - John Clark is listed as being the pastor of the Duck Creek Baptist Church in Hamilton Co., Illinois - Info. from History of Hamilton County Ohio, chapter XX (ancestry.com database). The Clark and Gibbs families moved to Edwards Co., Illinois around 1819. Date estimated from Mary Gibbs Bigelow history and John J. Clark obituary. In any case, they are in the Edwards Co., Illinois census in 1820. I have not figured out for sure where they are in 1830 or 1840 because I have not been able to see actual census records. The obituary for John J. Clark describes his father as: Rev. John Clark, native of New York and a pioneer Baptist minister in both Ohio and Illinois. Broome Co., New York was formed in 1806 from Tioga Co. and Tioga Co. was formed in 1791 from Montgomery Co. Found the following census records: 1790 - Montgomery Co., New York - indexes show 2 John Clark listings but I have not seen them yet. 1800 - Montgomery Co., New York - John Clark - 00200-10201-00 1800 - Montgomery Co., New York - John Clark Jr. - 00020-0000 1800 - Tioga Co., New York - John Clark - 11311-31101 There is also several John Clark folks listed in 1790 in Litchfield Co., Connecticut as Litchfield township - John Clark - 1-1-2 New Milford township - John Clark - 1-2-4 Woodbury township - John Clark - 1-3-5 Truman Gibbs - Anar's father - is also in Litchfield Co., Connecticut in 1790. Have also found a marriage record of John Clark to Ireny Gibbs - Aug. 23, 1797 in Litchfield Co., Connecticut. Fair Haven Church Records. Does anyone know who this John Clark might be? Ok.. think that is it for John Clark - take care - Emma
