    1. [CLARKE] Clark Plymouth MA & Jamestown, VA & MD
    2. Joseph A Arlt
    3. Hi Jim et al.. I would guess that there is no relationship between the Puritan MAss Plymouth Colony and the Catholic colony in MD. I would guess that your Robert was Scotch-Irish since the English mostly used the King's names (George, William, James, etc) for their kids and the Catholic Scotch-Irish tended to use Heroes and biblical names (Michael, etc). There is a lot of overlap in names, though, and I'm just talking in generalities... I have as the father of Thomas: (Caution...may contain Errors) Name John CLARKE, my #277 Sex: M Born Abt 1575 Rotherhithe, Surrey, ENG Baptized 26 Mar (N)1576 St Mary Rotherhithe, Surrey, ENG Died 1623 Jamestown, VA Other Mayflower 1st Mate/Pilot Occupation Mariner Wife: ________ __________ Per "Founders Of Early American Families", John Clarke, Came on "Mayflower" as pilot and mate 1620; Plymouth (Mass); removed to Jamestown (Va.), d. there 1623. Regarded as father of Thomas. (TAG 43:20) granted lands for service in the Virginia colony from the First Virginia Co. NOT the John of Ratcliff ENG, who m. Mary Morton 19 Feb (N)1599, at St Dunstan's Ch Stepney Mdlsex ENG... I have as his children: Thomas (mentioned below), William, John, Susanna, Andrew, James, and Nathaniel. I don't have a Robert listed nor do I have any more info on any of them, other than on Thomas.. Since Robert came as a servant he probably came from a poor family and was indentured until he worked off his passage costs. I would research Father Thomas Copley and find out where he came from and maybe you can find the same location for your Robert... Anybody else have any thoughts? >From Joe ARLT........joearlt@juno.com......CLARK Clearing House...
