    1. [CLARKE] Clarks, NC, SC & GA, 1768 on
    2. I thank the person who woke me up. I have been on this list a long time and have not posted recently. Maybe if we post these southern Clark(e) families it will help. My CLARK line were supposed to come from VA, through the Carolinas and finally settled in GA. One family story is that they were cattle herders along the NC/SC border in the late 1700s. The first thing we know for sure was that my ggg Grandfather John Clark was in Burke Co. GA in 1805 when he qualified for the GA land lottery. We feel sure his brother Eli and probably a brother Henry were with him there. John married Amelia (Emelia) Sikes (Sykes) probably in Burke Co. Let me add they had sisters named Hester and Mary. We have these lines on down pretty well documented. The exception to that is Mary. John settled in Laurens County GA. His brother Eli settled in Thomas/Colquitt area. John's sister Hester m. Thomas Lindsey and they were among the first settlers of Montgomery Co. There is a Henry Clark in the Montgomery/Laurens Co area that we feel sure was a sibling. Here are the children for John. I have details if you think you might connect. 1 John Clark b. 9/28/1768 according to family Bible d. 3/20/1827 + Amelia Sikes b. 7/25/1785 2 Nancy b.10/20/1803 never married 2 Calphrey b. 10/4/1806 +Cynthia Burch 2 John Gias Nicholas Freeman b. 3/25/1809 + Elizabeth McClendon 2 Mary b. 7/6/1811 +Samuel Miller 2 Amarintha b. 2/1/1814 +Willian Clark 2 Matthew b. 4/7/1816 + Elizabeth Burch + Ursula A.
