He arrived as a single man but married shortly thereafter. Robert was a servant of Father Thomas Copley a Jesuit Priest. By 1638 Robert Clarke was a Freeman and a member of the Privy Council of Maryland, and was made Surveyor General of Lord Baltimore. He was a Catholic.
