    1. [CLARKE] CLARKE-CLARK CONFUSION FYI :
    2. Carroll H Clark
    3. Please allow me to try & help those who were/are confused about the CLARKE, CLARK Sites: All of the rootsweb.com Sites use an a u t o m a t e d system to subscribe or to unsubscribe to their various Sites. An automated system is not handled by a human being, but is set up to RESPOND to a REQUEST to either subscribe or to unsubscribe Here is how it works- For instance, if I want to subscribe to a name such as DOE (as in John Doe) I would need to type in my Send to: screen DOE-L-request@rootsweb.com and in the Text or Write in screen I would type only the word subscribe NOTHING ELSE! If I send that, & only that, in a short time span, I will either receive a Notice that I have been subscribed or NOT, depending upon whether the Surname DOE was ACTIVE among the rootsweb. com Sites. If, for instance, I were already Subscribed to the DOE L (or List), or the D (or Digest Version) and I wanted to Unsubscribe from it. You would need to do so by going to your Send to: screen, write the DOE-L-request@rootsweb.com and in the Text or large writing screen write simply unsubscribe NOTHING ELSE ! It is the word request in that a d d r e s s that triggers the a u t o m a t i o n (NO human ) response of the rootsweb.com Sites. Fantastic, isn't it ! What Sue and others (et al) are trying to EXPLAIN to ALL of US is that IN THE PAST SOME PERSONS had entered subscribe to the OLDER CLARK-L-request@ rootsweb.com to subscribe to the CLARK List (with no e ). HOWEVER, since CLARK and CLARKE are so Similar (& oftentime spelled both ways in documents, histories, etc.) a Site WHICH INCLUDES both SPELLINGS of this "occupation name" - it was Found to be a BETTER, more concentrated Site to have just ONE site for BOTH CLARK, and CLARKE. Sue, and Others, trying to help to Clarify, and to Reroute ALL former CLARK subscribers of the OLDER Site to DO THE FOLLOWING: ONLY THOSE who are presently subscribed to the CLARK (no e) Site- 1. In your Send to: (or Address screen) write: CLARK-L-request@rootsweb.com with ONLY the word unsubscribe and NOTHING ELSE - as this will TELL the AUTOMATED SYSTEM to take you OFF OF that CLARK (no e) List. IF everyone does this then it WILL Close Down the unnecessary Clark Site, BUT it will ALLOW BOTH CLARK & CLARKE surnames to Share the ONE Site. Then: This is ONLY THOSE who had been subscribed to the CLARK (no e) Site- 2. In your Send to: ( or Address screen) write: CLARKE-L-request@rootsweb.com with ONLY the word subscribe and NOTHING ELSE - as this will TELL the AUTOMATED SYSTEM to ADD YOU to the ONE, common Site CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com as a subscriber. NOW you may wish to receive the D or Digest Version on your Screen subscription, then you would need to substitue the D in place of the L (the List Version). Some gens. prefer either the L or the D version - it is your choice. The L Version comes to just as it is Sent, but the D or Digest Version comes to you in bunches -at -a -time. Just recently, I had subscribed to the L or List Version of this CLARKE site (even though I spell mine CLARK), but I was getting so many of both spellings of the name, along with the various Other Surname Sites that I had subscribed to that I found that I needed to unsubscribe from the L version of our CLARKE site and then, subscribe to the D version allowing me to see bunches or clusters of the CLARK/CLARK info so that I could go through them quickly, and more conveniently for my needs. I found it to be better for me. Try it and see which you prefer, depending upon how heavy your Surname Traffic is, and what you like best. Now, this is a DISSERTATION, I know, but I hope this will help CLARIFY what it is that is trying to be accomplished. Since CLARK/CLARKE are so similar except for the Spelling, and by having them SEPARATED by the Two Sites, many are LOSING OUT on Valuable genealogy information - so by combing the two at ONE convenient Site, we can ALL profit by the CHANGEOVER. I have found that in researching my Colonial CLARKs that there were some of the BRANCHES of my Line that either kept, or added the e to the CLARKE spelling. This is all the more reason for COMBINING the Sites to just ONE. This is so we will NOT MISS that Information which could be the KEY to the genealogy that we are SEEKING. Amen! I know that at Least one of my anc. GFers was a Circuit Riding (NO, not Preacher; Minister, Man of the Cloth, Clerc, ad nauseum !) so our genes over the eons of Time have NOT been in the LOSS for WORDS ! I hope that this "clear as mud" expose, and dissertation has "clarified" us ALL of what is happening and that the CHANGE is the BEST FOR OUR INTERESTS: That of Getting the Skinny on Those Ancestors, and Descendants ! Thank you for your Time! Carroll CLARK (Who has both CLARK & CLARKE spellings among the same Roots ). clarkw7iml@juno.com Snohomish, WA 30 mi NE of Seattle P.S. Grt Grt GF Jason SQUIRE CLARK & hwf Anna MICHAEL (Palatine) Left IN in 1847with their Families, & by Ox Team at 4 mph. traveled from IN to Brownsville, OR in that Same year. They were at various places in OR from 1847 - 1865 when they migrated N to what became known as WA Territory, called White River Valley, W.T. which is now known as the town of Kent, WA just S of Seattle. They were 1865 Pioneers there & most of them were buried at Kent, WA or down near the Columbia River on the WA Side and some on the OR side of the Columbia. The CLARK - SORENSEN (Danes!) Reunion is being held at Camas, WA near the Columbia River (VANCOUVER, WA area) July 15, 2001 Sunday. My dau. & I went last year but we won'g be able to attend this year's get-together. A huge computer Print Out of the huge Tribe graces the walls of the Meeting places - a Joy to See. I will Miss It but I will be there in Spirit ! What is Pathetic if that I am the only male having the CLARK Surname who attends now. All the elderly Clarks have passed away. And I am no chick at age 76, so I would surely like to attend. I hope that they form the e-mail List that they had intended to DO but haven't DONE as of Last Year ! That would help us who can't or don't travel those Long Distances to the Reunions anymore. This one has been taking place since 1934, and I only discovered them in 1983 when I got BITTEN by the GEN BUG ! Finis !
