    1. [CLARKE] Re: William Clark, KY

    3. I'd like to hear more about this family. The names and locations are ringing some bells: Samuel CLARK b. 1775 VA (another census record says NC); 1st wife unknown (poss. Jean BAKER, but I have not seen proof); 2nd wife Hannah JAMES WADE was the widow of Elisha WADE b. 30 Sep 1773 Goochland Co, VA. Elisha's father was Richard WADE, Sr., a Revolutionary War veteran who arrived at Fort Boonsborough (KY) 12 Oct 1777. He lived in Madison Co, KY, until Dec 1801 when he migrated to Wayne County, KY. That is where my Samuel CLARK, Sr., first appears in the 1820 Census. Samuel had at least nine children by his first wife, three of whom are known: Samuel CLARK, Jr. b. 1794-1800 (nothing else is known about him) Jesse CLARK/E, Sr. b. 1800-1801 NC m. Sarah BELL, d/o Francis BELL of Randolph Co, NC d. bef. 1885 Wayne Co, KY Elizabeth CLARK b. 1805 KY m. William BELL, Jr. and migrated to Missouri The oldest son of Jesse CLARK/E, Sr., was John B. CLARK/E. Given the recurring naming patterns in this family, it is very likely John B. CLARK/E was named after a relative. Also, Wayne County contained an enclave of Revolutionary War veterans, most likely because portions of this area were designated for military land grants. Two Clarks who received land grants along the Otter Creek watercourse were a James CLARK of VA and a William CLARK (probably also VA). Two sons of the above James CLARK (b. bef. 1765)--John CLARK b. bet. 1794-1800 and Robert CLARK b. bet. 1794-1802--migrated to Illinois, county unknown. Another Revolutionary War vet who settled in Wayne was John HALL, Sr. b. 1758 Anne Arundel Co, MD. John's daughter Permelia married Lindsey BELL, brother-in-law of Jesse CLARK. A second John HALL, b. 1794 NC was poss. a son or grandson of the above John Hall, Sr. married Mary HENRY b. Nov 1798 Danville, Madison Co, KY. Mary was the d/o William HENRY and Rosannah WADE (d/o Richard WADE, Sr.) Lydia HENRY, sister of Mary, m. Jonathan BOONE. I do not know how Jonathan is related to the Boone family, but it is documented that Daniel and Israel BOONE were both in Wayne County. These families all appear to have been as mobile as the American family today, crisscrossing and migrating throughout VA, NC & KY, and sometimes beyond. It has made tracking my Samuel CLARK very difficult, to say the least. Two straws I'm grasping at is the apparent longstanding relationships he had with the BELLs who migrated to Wayne County from Randolph County, NC, and the WADEs who came to Wayne from Madison County, KY. I'm hoping William CLARK may be a missing piece of the puzzle. Clark, son of John and Obedience, was born on 13June1773 in VA and died 31Jan1852 in Fulton Co. KY married 9Jan1792 in Madison Co. KY to Mary Hall and thus would not be the father of the 6 Clark brothers that include G.R. and Wm. Clark. This is according to the book on that family I have. I would love to find out more on that branch as well as John and Obedience's branch for they live near each other and the names used in the families are very similar.
