I'm hoping for a miracle. This is my 25-year brick wall. My gg grandmother was Ruth Ann CLARK/E, b. 9-30-1814 in GA, according to the 1850-1860 census records. If correct, she was prob. b. in Franklin Co, GA when it encompassed part of what is now northwest South Carolina. According to one item I've seen, Ruth Ann was a great granddaughter of Sir William CLARKE who resigned the British Navy to fight with the American colonists in the Revolutionary War, and rec'd an honorable mention at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The same article named her mother as Amelia HOOPER, and said Amelia's father was William HOOPER, signer of the Declaration of Independence. I believe Amelia's father was Matthew Brooks HOOPER who married Elizabeth Adams "Betsy" WORD (Jr.). Matthew was a son of Obediah HOOPER & Massilva BROOKS of VA and GA. Amelia Monroe HOOPER, b. Feb 10, 1796, Pendleton Dist, SC; d. Oct 25, 1850, Tishomingo Co, MS; m. John CLARK/E ca. 1811-1812, probably either in Franklin Co, GA or in Pendleton Dist, SC. John CLARK/E & Amelia Monroe HOOPER had three daughters: 1. Elizabeth W.(Word?) CLARK/E, b. Jul 7, 1813, no further info. Prob. b. in Franklin Co, GA. 2. Ruth Ann CLARK/E, b. Sep 30, 1814, GA (prob. Franklin Co); d. Jun 21, 1884, Alcorn Co, MS (previously Tishomingo); and m. Fenton B. HALL Nov. 23, 1830. Ruth and Fenton moved in 1848 to Tishomingo Co, MS (where her mother died in 1850) and the last three of their 12-13 children were born there, including my great grandfather, Virgil Miller HALL. 3. Harriett Perry CLARK/E, b. Sep 19, 1818, prob. in GA. No further info on her. John CLARK/E would have been a grandson of Sir William CLARKE mentioned above. I'm trying to find the identity of John's father. John's wife Amelia HOOPER's family has close ties to the big WORD family and the ADAMS family and she was supposedly related to the Presidents ADAMS. I have quite a bit of information on the WORDs and some on the ADAMS as well as other related families, including Ruth's HALL in-laws. Can anyone help me connect John CLARK/E with his parents? [Note: Amelia Hooper CLARK/E remarried to James Dickinson WORD, Sr. and they had 9 more children. One was Matthew Franklin WORD and "my" Ruth Ann named one of her sons Matthew Franklin HALL.] Thanks for any help and ideas! Becky Smith
