    3. Also, keep in mind when requesting files, that there is no charge if the file is not found, so don't hesitate to request some that you only have an "educated" guess about their service. Determine from their age what War it might have been or dates he/she might have served. Don't forget that females also may have military pension records either on their own service or their spouse? The records will be in the spouse's name. Some early (Prior to Civil War) records might be in State archives as they were often State militia.
