Dear Jean Gilmore, I have several Clark ancestors who were in the 72nd Indiana, Col. John T. Wilder's Lightning Brigade, noted for saving the Union army on several occasions. They were the first unit to acquire Spencer Repeating rifles. Although I knew my Clarks were with Wilder, I had to go to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. to get their service records. There were MANY Clarks from Indiana in the Civil War. You can also order a file from NARA for a fee. Go the the National Archives on line. You can do a search for your ancestor's regiment on Indiana in the Civil War and get the regimental history. Unfortunately, most unit rosters are not listed in entirity. Hope this helps some.
