Clarke List, cousins and friends; Below is the posting by Eola Clarke of her Rhode Island Clarkes. I am a member of this Clarke family with some differences. As a new genealogy buff just this summer, I have acquired files from other sources including familysearch.com, ancestry.com, FTW. I realize the info is a guide to begin research. However, how does one differentiate between lines which closely resemble eachother but not exactly? For instance; in Eola's work where she shows Joseph Clarke b. Nov. 16, 1664, marries Margaret Turner my data shows a different Joseph Clarke b. Dec. 9, 1618 as the spouse for Margaret Turner, then our data continue with a Joseph Jr in both lines. Her Jjr and mine have different birth dates and wives and the lines completely divide after this point. Eola, I hope I am being clear that I just wish to follow the correct line - especially because you have extended it back 2 more generations. We had stopped with John Clarke b. 1509-1515, in Westhorpe, Suffolk, Eng., wife Margaret (MNU). So the welcome additions of Thomas Clerke and John Clerke are thrilling. Will you share the source of this data with me? And how did you arrive at the pairing of your Joseph Clarke 1664 w/Margaret Turner? Hi Eola, My name is Cyrus Clarke and I am descendant of Joseph Clarke, brother of John Clarke. The John Clarke I am referring to is the one who was born in Suffolk, 1609 and died in Rhode Island, 1676. John Clarke did not have any children; it is his brother, Joseph who is the progenitor in America. I think the only info you have wrong is the fact that Joseph was his brother, not his son. If your info is not correct, I can help you out. I have seen, held, and read the Clarke family bible brought over by John and Joseph in the 1630's as well as a lot of the documents about and burial sites of the Clarke family and have quite a bit of non-internet sourcing on this.
