Hello, Just like to remind Listers about my solidly built, concrete-block wall of: James CLARK/E, born probably 1790 to 1800 - somewhere !!! First we hear of him he is living in Little Compton, RI, around 1825. He married Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) LAVARE in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829, had a daughter there in 1837, and was no longer with his family in 1850. He "might" have been the James CLARK who got on a ship in New Bedford, MA, in 1845 which was bound for the Indian Ocean for a 4-year voyage. He had signed on as a "greenhand" and "deserted" in Australia - probably never to be seen again ! Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: James and Rhoda CLARK's daughter, Mary Anna "Molly" CLARK, married John DEXTER of Killingly, CT, and spent most of her married life in Killingly, CT. Around 1889/1890, John and "Molly" DEXTER strangely moved to Boston, MA, and, while in their late 50's, adopted a baby girl (just turned 3). The girl was re-named Mary Anna Clark DEXTER in 1892. I believe that the little girl they adopted was their own grandchild - "possibly" the result of an "unwanted pregnancy" of their married daughter back in Killingly, CT. (They had had 3 daughters, but the others died young.) I might not "ever" be able to prove this, but, if the "miracle" ever happens, then James CLARK would have been my great-great-great-grandfather.
James and his family and his children and their families were in Roane Co., TN in 1840 and 1850 as follows: 1840 Roane Co., TN, Page 86 and 87 Role 535 James Clark 1 - 1 1 1 - 1 - - - - - - | - 2 1 - - 1 - John Clark - - - - 1 - - - - - - - - | 1 - - - 1 and his wife, Rebecca Edgemon Clark, and young daughter, Nancy. Hi all, I just wanted to mention two of my websites that have Virginia genealogy information I have transcribed and posted. Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940: http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/ and Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy: http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/ Both of the sites have search engines on the main pages. I hope the information on them is helpful to you. God bless, Beth deliaesther@att.net
Hi all, My 3rd great-grandfather Edwin Harvey Clarke 1810-1865 was born and lived in Virginia, in Manchester city and Chesterfield County. His parents were Martha Harrison Murchie and James Clarke, Jr. In 1833 he married to Esther Hughes Cunliffe and they had 7 children: Linden Sydnor, Carroll Charles, Ogden Hoffman, Shirley Hepsy(male), Esther Marian(my 2nd great-grandfather), Glenda "Glendy" Burke and Ann "Nannie" K. Clarke. I have alot more information on the children and their descendants. The four brothers were born first and then they had three girls! If you are related to this family please e-mail me at: deliaesther@att.net Thank you. God bless, Beth
I am seeking descendants of, or anyone with whereabouts of, a Bessie Clarke or Clark, born in Iowa the daughter of a V. Clarke and Dora Lewis. V. Clarke and Dora divorced and married a Richard Eggleston of Osceola, Clarke Co., IA. Bessie Clark is listed on the 1900 Iowa Census (Soundex Code E-242) living in Richard Eggleston's household as his step-daughter in Osceola, Clarke County, IA, but no longer living in household on 1910 census. Bessie Clarke b. June 1888, age 12 in 1900. I believe that Bessie was deceased by September 1936 as she is not listed as a surviving child in her mother Dora Eggleston Morain’s obituary. Any info on Bessie Clark will be most appreciated. Thanks and happy hunting everyone! Hoping to hear from some new "cuzzies". Email: JWinter588@AOL.com
