Hi, I am looking for connections for a Charles Clark who marr Malinda Elizabeth (or Melinda, or Elizabeth Malinda) Reed in Sangamon/or Morgan Counties in IL. They had a large family which I do not have all the names of the children except my great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Clark who was born in 1840 there in IL. Charles died in the late 1850's, c. 1858-1859 as Malinda marries again to a George W. Clark and has more children. George and Malinda end up in Page Co, IA. Do any of these names and dates match with what you have? Looking forward to hearing from you when you can. Kathy Clark Stovall in CA

Hi, I'm new to the list (not sure why I haven't found it before, maybe the 'e' at the end threw me off). Just thought I'd introduce myself and my Clark line.... My 9x great-grandfather was Deacon George Clark of Milford Connecticut, dating from the 1630s. My 5X great-grandfather, Daniel Clark, migrated from Milford to New Milford, Connecticut(not sure of the year), and around 1854, my 3X great-grandfather, Seeley Clark, packed up his (large) family and moved to Neponset, Illinois, with many of the children ending up in Kewanee, Illinois (10 miles away and much larger than Neponset). My great-grandfather, Charles Clark seemed to have been semi-nomadic - he and his children (with the exception of my grandfather) seem to have wandered across the country, ending up in California. My grandfather, Homer Clark, left Kewanee for Joliet, Illinois, and later ended up in Indiana (and here I am...). If anyone has interest or a connection in this line, I have a lot of information, and am always looking for more. I noticed in the archives of this list that several years ago, someone was interested in Seeley. If they're still around, I'd be happy to discuss him further. Laurie (Clark) Kender in NW Indiana

Betty, and Joe; I have a James Clarke, b. about 1809 in Madison CO, NY to [--?--] and Sarah Clarke. This family came from RI in the early 1800's, but I have not been able to get Mr. Clarke's first name. The "Josiah" being discussed by yourself and others is as fitting as any other first name. The Clarkes were farmers and settled in Brookfield, in the SE corner of Madison Co. Their children were: James 1809, John Thompson 1811, Luther 1815, Welcome 1817 and Sarah 1825. James may have moved with his mother and her second husband after [--?--] Clarke died about 1830. James' return to RI seems perfect reasonable. J. T. Clark is my maternal g g grandfather who was a prominent lawyer in Allamakee, CO, IA. He m. Elizabeth Blakeslee in 1835. Elizabeth and her family resided near Paris Hill, Oneida Co., NY. If this stirs up any ideas, please respond. Margaret Carefree, AZ
Hi Joe, I know you are talking about Silas CLARKE's, but I'd like to mention that one of my grandfather's was named, Silas. He was one of the youngest of 13 children, and was named after the long-time, well-liked Town Clerk in Stoneham, MA, who was named Silas DEAN. My grandfather was given the name, Silas Dean LEWIS, when he was born there in 1898. I'm the one who has the James CLARK/E who mysteriously showed up in Little Compton, RI, around 1825, and who mysteriously disappeared from nearby Westport, MA, in the 1840's. My "gut feeling" is that he was from a New England family, but no researcher has laid claim to him. He was either born around 1800, as his wife (1829) was, or he was older than she was and was born around 1780's. How about your Silases in Washington Co., PA? I have three, all descendents of Isaac Clark b 1766 and Deborah French b 1769. Of course I think at least one or two of them ended up moving to IA. Dennis and Jim, Would you please elaborate more on the names, dates, places of your families in NY and CT. I am trying to connect with some Clarks in those two places and ties to MA and Ontario, Canada. This connection also includes my Clarks known to have lived in CT...Waterbury, and Devon, Milford area, New Haven Co. CT. 1920's on. MA in 1880's (maybe earlier as well); and Ontario, Canada in 1870's; and some born in Scotland before emigrating to either USA or Canada direct before 1870. (May have been in USA or North America around 1857- (59) per 1810 Census. Known names: Alexander Clark, b:ca 1844 Scotland; M: Mary Boyd, b: Oct 1850, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. They had at least 3 children and maybe more: Mary, b: 10 Oct 1872, Grantham, Lincoln Co. Ontario, Can.; William Alexander Clark, b: Feb 1877, Merritton,Lincoln Co. Ontario, Can.; and John, b: ca 1879, Canada, of Scottish Parentage. This Family emigrated to Attleboro, Bristol Co. MA probably 1879, and appear on 1880 MA Census. Mary Boyds Parents and 4 siblings probably emigrated from Ontario, Can. to Lincoln, Providence Co. RI in 1879 and appeared on RI 1880 Census. (Located near each other.) I have more information on some of these people. Need more on Alexander Clark/Mary Boyd and ancestors. and any other children and death information in MA. I know there was a James Clark and others in Stratford, Fairfield Co. earlier in proabably 1700'1800s. Also, another family of Clarks who were in CT and NY...but do not know too much about them. 1900s. A Stanley Clark and others. ... Jim, Elias had a son Samuel Clark (1785-1871) that lived in Veteran (now Chemung) County and later he lived in the Southport/Ashland area of Chemung County. Your Silas does not fit into his line, but, maybe the two brothers that I had previously mentioned. Also, Elias' daughter Elizabeth Clark Frost (1789-1866) remained in the Catharine area (now Schuyler) from 1809 until her death. She is in Coe Cemetery. My particular line went to Medina County, Ohio (1832-1849) and later removed to Ionia County Michigan. You can see many of my Clarks on the Schuyler County New York GenWeb Site in the 1825 Census. Samuel is also listed in the 1830 Census for Veteran on the Chemung County GenWeb Site. I am thinking that we have corresponded before. Don't you have an Elias in your tree somewhere? If not there is another Jim Clark from Iowa who does. I will E-mail you with more detailed information. Hello, Dennis -- Do you happen to know the names of Silas Clark's daughters and granddaughters? I'm endlessly searching for my g-g-grandmother, Maria C. Clark. The info I have says she was b. at Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY, 10 May 1823. As an aside, I did notice on the map at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures48/ 00004856b.jpg that there is a town a short distance to the northwest of Auburn called "Clarksville." I do know her marriage and death information: Maria C. Clark m. 26 Sep 1843 at Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY, Stephen Weeks/Wicks (b. 10 Jan 1820, Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY; d. 16 Dec 1888, Leslie Township, Ingham Co., MI; son of Benjamin Weeks/Wicks and his wife Maria Ann Whitney. Immediately after their marriage, Stephen and Maria, along with Stephen's two brothers, George Washington Weeks/Wicks and William Henry Weeks/Wicks, set out for the wild, untamed forests of lower Ingham Co., MI. The three brothers settled on adjoining parcels of virgin forest approximately 1 mile west of the town of Leslie, Ingham Co., MI. Maria C. (Clark) Weeks d. giving birth to her 9th child, Leslie Township, Ingham Co., MI, 1 Jul 1868. She is buried with her husband, his second wife (Laura Edwina Reynolds), and several children from both of Stephen's marriages at Woodlawn Cemetery, Leslie, Ingham Co., MI. Stephen Weeks was a devout Baptist, so perhaps Maria's family was as well. His obituary says he was a deacon in the Leslie Baptist congregation for many years. I've tried unsuccessfully to find Maria's parents and siblings. Any chance she belongs to your group? Best Regards, Sally J. (Bolster) Holcombe sallyholcombe@mac.com

As previously discussed on this list, I have reopened the CyberSea website at myfamily.com as a memorial to its previous owner and administrator, Virginia Smith Heard, who passed away last year. I have received a contribution to support it and have therefore moved forward with it. It is dedicated the Clarks and other related family names from Newton and Madison Co., AR. This James Harvey Clark line ties back to Clarks in Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs and Roane Co., TN and then NC. I have sent emails to all old members of that site, but many (~48%) addresses came back as undeliverable as so many have changed. I would like to invite any other interested Clark researchers to join, if you so desire. It requires a user name and password, so if you would like an invitation to the site, please do not reply to this message, but send me (pesnow@aol.com) email with the request. Thanks and regards, Phillip pesnow@aol.com
