Greetings, We hired someone to research our family in Scotland and they have taken it back another generation to Alexander GULLILAND mar. to Janet Clark: Descendants of Alexander GULLILAND 1 Alexander GULLILAND .. +Janet "Jean" CLARKE m: February 22, 1805 in Parish of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, Scotland (no birth or death dates as yet for either) We also have a Luella Jessie CLARK b. 1876 d. 1939 mar. to Robert Lee VAN DYKE in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pa. but no further informaton on her. I did find an old posting for this list for Luella but the email address bounced. We are hoping to go to Scotland next spring so would love to find further information on Janet/Jean CLARKE's family. That hits close to home! I live in Warwick. Have to see if he's buried here. My father-in-law Cecil Clark was a sharpshooter in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, also mentioned in this book. The Battle of the Hurtgen, although less familiar than the Battle of the Bulge, was more terrible. Soldiers literally had to "hug a tree" for protection, because if they laid down on the ground, they were exposed to the shrapnel from explosives lobbed overhead and if they came out from behind the tree, they were shot by snipers. Their only protection literally was the helmets on their heads and the trees they hugged. By our best calculations, my father-in-law was shipped directly from basic training in Indiana and put right into battle. So many were so green... He never talked about it, but his brother-in-law who fought at Metz was able to relate some of what happened in later years. I need some help. I amd trying to locate the connection with the Clark lineage to the Reeder lineage and to the Dalton lineage. Here is what I have: Joseph Clark's son William Clark married a Naomi C ????(maiden name unknown she born in N.C.) and they named their first born son William Reeder Clark. William Reeder Clark is a brother to Nancy Smith Clark who married Jesse W. Dalton. I do know that there was a Reeder in Grainger Co., in the 1800's. William Reeder Clark would have been born between 1810 (date of marriage of William Clark and Naomi) and 1812. Nancy Smith Clark was born on 8 July 1813, next was Naomi Clark b. abt. 1816 then Elvira Elizabeth Clark b. 1826 and then John Clark (I have no date of birth for him). We have some information as to where the Smith comes from in Nancy's name and so are assuming that the Reeder would come from Naomi C ?. This would have been in probably either Grainger Co., or Claiborne Co., Tenn. Around 1840 Joseph, William Clark and Jesse William & Nancy Smith Clark Dalton were in Jackson Co., Mo. Jesse W. & Nancy Dalton named one of their sons Elison Reeder Dalton b. 7 Apr 1837 in Claiborne Co., Tenn. So you can see where I am coming from. Does anyone on any of these lines have any information or connection with the Reeders you are researching that would tie them in with the Clarks and the Daltons. The 1850 and 1860 census records for De Kalb Co AL show an elderly John Clark living in the household of Elisha Clark b. ca. 1817 KY. Also enumerated in De Kalb Co are Shadrack b. ca. 1810 KY and Oliver P. b. ca. 1815 KY. The 1850 census gives John Clark's age as 64 and the 1860 census gives his age as 80. Both census records state he was born in NC. Putting two and two together and referring also to secondary sources, it appears John Clark was the father of Elisha, Shadrack & Oliver. I believe John Clark may have been the son of Thomas Clark SR b. ca. 1755 of Pulaski Co KY. Thomas' son John Clark was b. ca. 1784 and married Nancy Herrin in Pulaski Co KY in 1806. Nancy was a daughter of Shadrack Herrin Sr it is logical that John & Nancy would have named a son Shadrack Clark. The 1830 census for Jackson Co AL enumerates John Clark on the same page as Nancy's brother Shadrack Herrin. The approximate ages of the children match the ages of Shadrack, Oliver & Elisha in the 1850 census for De Kalb Co. It appears the three brothers migrated to Comanche Co TX. If anyone is researching this family, please contact me. Note: *According to the 1805 Pulaski Co tax list, when John first appeared, assuming he turned 21 that year, he would have been born in 1784. In 1840, John Clark would have been 50-59 In 1850, John Clark would have been 60-69 John Clark in Elishas HH was 64 In 1860, John Clark would have been 70-79 John Clark in Elishas HH was 80

Joe, Thank you. I keep running into this line, but I'm fairly certain they are not closely--if at all--connected, despite the fact that they turn up in several of the same general areas as the lines I'm studying. I may have to revisit this to rule out that possibility. it is hard to tell. both my grandfather -walter alexander and my great grandfather thomas alexander names would be a clue . my gggrandfather thomas clark m dicy loyd is the key going back into 1700s. thomas was b 1795. i need his father and bro and sisters. to tie things together. dick clarke dotdickclarke@aol.com
to shelly henry you posted info about thomas clarke of va . on your list thomas's daughter m john rudd v this tell me it is highlt likely that these clarkes are related to us. my ggranfather t a clark had a cousin named emma rudd living with him as a housekeeper because of his young children. at that time they wereliving in bedford co tn. on your list is a ona rudd b 1783 in prince edward co va who later d in 1883in bedford co tn emma has to be related to them and if she is it stands to reason that thomas clarke jr could be my ggggrandfather i would appreciate any info you might have. sincerely richard a (dick) clarke
