    2. Wade, Have you checked the "History of Gratiot County Michigan 1881" that is available on Central Michigan University's Clarke Historical Library Web Site? They have scanned most of the pages and they are available online. I do know that there are a couple of articles ( Bios ) about individuals named Clark. If I remember correctly I believe that one was a Doctor ( MD ) . I had a relative named Peter Clark Jr. who was in Gratiot County ( Pine River Township ) in this time period. Peter had moved into Gratiot County from Ionia County. Let me know if you have any problems finding the Book and I'll try sending it to you as an attachment. Good Luck and have a great day! 3. Ronna, I'm intrigued by your message regarding Wm. Archer Clarke. My g'grandfather Harry R. CLARKE had a brother names William A. CLARKE. Harry was born in London, Ontario, Canada, 1865, William was born London?, Ontario?, Canada, ca 1867. Birth year a bit off from the time span you listed, but maybe...? Do you have any further information that might link your William and mine? 2. Sam Taylor
    3. Hi, Anyone researching Clark/Clarke family from Kentucky 1790-1810. My George Clark Jr, born October 01, 1805 in Kentucky. He married Sally Blair April 23, 1829 in Floyd County Indiana (Floyd County is just across the Ohio River from Louisville) My George Clark Jr and his father George Clark Sr are listed on the 1830 census for Floyd County Indiana. By the way they are listed on the census as Jr. and Sr. George and Sally moved to Illinois in 1835. No trace of George Sr after the 1830 census. Thanks Sam

Best guess for birth date & > location... > Hi Joe, Ok.. let's talk about Orange Clark now... Orange Clark - b. 1795/1801 - this range of years comes from census records. He is in the 1820 census for Edwards Co., Illinois as age 19-25. And.. he married Isabel Neely on July 22, 1824 in Clark Co., Illinois. Interesting enough there is a record for a Orange Clark who married a Isobel Seely in Lisle, Broome Co., New York in 1827. But I really believe this is a different Orange Clark. There was a Seely family in New York and they did marry into a Clark family. But so far I have not been able to link these two Clark families. Has anyone else? Then.... in the 1830 census for JoDaviess Co., Illinois I found the following: Orange Clark 100001 - 10001 this would be: 1 male under 5 1 male 30-40 1 female under 5 1 female 20-30 This would fit for the age of my Orange Clark and Isabel Neely. It would also fit for their daughter Jane who was born abt 1830 in Illinois (based on 1850 & 1860 census in Dallas and Parker counties of Texas). If this is the correct Orange Clark then he and Isabel also had a young son in the 1830 census. Something must have happened to this son as this would be the only record of him that I have found so far. He does not appear in the 1840 census with Samuel and Isabel. Orange Clark apparently died. I have rather wondered if he was not killed in the Black Hawk war. In any case his widow Isabel Neely Clark then married his younger brother Samuel Clark on 24 Sept. 1835. More about Samuel later. Take care - Emma

Sorry about that... :) In "History of the Early Life of Mary Gibbs Bigelow" written by Mary Gibbs Bigelow she comments: "The next I remember my father's brother-in-law (Uncle Clark) came to move us, ready to go on a raft down the Ohio River. That was in the Spring that I was four years old... We went on a raft; we went on below Pittsburgh and sixteen miles below Marietta on the river." Mary Gibbs Bigelow was the daughter of Benjamin Gibbs. Benjamin was Anar's brother and the two families moved from NY to Ohio to Illinois together. Interesting enough... Mary Gibbs married Nahum Bigelow in Illinois and two of their daughters later married Brigham Young. Which is why I have been able to find information on them. In 1813 John Clark and Anner Clark are listed as joining the Columbia Baptist Church in Hamilton Co., Ohio. An Elias Gibbs is shown as joining the church at the same time. This is possibly Anar's brother.. or at least I am wondering if it isn't. And there is a John Clark listed on the tax rolls for Hamilton Co., Ohio for 1812 as is a Justus Gibbs. 1814-1816 - John Clark is listed as being the pastor of the Duck Creek Baptist Church in Hamilton Co., Illinois - Info. from History of Hamilton County Ohio, chapter XX (ancestry.com database). The Clark and Gibbs families moved to Edwards Co., Illinois around 1819. Date estimated from Mary Gibbs Bigelow history and John J. Clark obituary. In any case, they are in the Edwards Co., Illinois census in 1820. I have not figured out for sure where they are in 1830 or 1840 because I have not been able to see actual census records. The obituary for John J. Clark describes his father as: Rev. John Clark, native of New York and a pioneer Baptist minister in both Ohio and Illinois. Broome Co., New York was formed in 1806 from Tioga Co. and Tioga Co. was formed in 1791 from Montgomery Co. Found the following census records: 1790 - Montgomery Co., New York - indexes show 2 John Clark listings but I have not seen them yet. 1800 - Montgomery Co., New York - John Clark - 00200-10201-00 1800 - Montgomery Co., New York - John Clark Jr. - 00020-0000 1800 - Tioga Co., New York - John Clark - 11311-31101 There is also several John Clark folks listed in 1790 in Litchfield Co., Connecticut as Litchfield township - John Clark - 1-1-2 New Milford township - John Clark - 1-2-4 Woodbury township - John Clark - 1-3-5 Truman Gibbs - Anar's father - is also in Litchfield Co., Connecticut in 1790. Have also found a marriage record of John Clark to Ireny Gibbs - Aug. 23, 1797 in Litchfield Co., Connecticut. Fair Haven Church Records. Does anyone know who this John Clark might be? Ok.. think that is it for John Clark - take care - Emma

E. > Ch. 1846... Anna: Parents: Truman & Anna (BARNES) GIBBS.. . > Ok -- here is my information/questions on John Clark and Anar Gibbs. 1. The marriage date of Jan. 4, 1801 - does anyone have a source for this marriage record. I have seen it in databases out there but have not been able to locate an actual entry for that marriage. Anar (Anna) was born in Litchfield Co., Connecticut. And then I have found land entries for her father, Truman Gibbs, in Broome Co., NY. And.. it appears from other information that they were in Broome Co., NY when they decided to move to Ohio. And.. Alvin Clark, John and Anar's 2nd child indicated that he was born in NY. So.. the best guess would be that they married in New York or Connecticut and then immediately moved to New York. Based on census records, their oldest known child, Orange Clark, would have been born 1795/1801. So the marriage date of Jan. 1801 would certainly be logical. 2. So far I have not been able to check the 1850 census for Oxford Illinois. I believe it is in Henry Co., Illinois. So I have not been able to see what John indicates as his birth place. However, Samuel Clark - in the 1880 census of Jack Co., Texas - indicates that his father was born in NY. 3. I notice that you indicate that John Clark was pastorate of the Baptist Church at Oxford, IL, and indicate a source as church records.. I would love to try to access some of those church records. Could you by any chance tell me where they are. Would try to order on ILL or something. Thanks and take care and see next message - Emma
