I think we've talked before. They were my great grandparents. I've been searching for several years and have not been able to find out who their parents were. One man who is related to us thinks that there is a connection with General Elijah Clark of Georgia. He moved from the Carolinas to Georgia. He had a son named John who moved from Georgia to Mississippi. My father always said the Clarks came from Macon, Georgia. I don't know if that was Macon the city, or Macon County. William did of course move from Mississippi to Texas. Do you have any information about Georgia? This month I am going to a family reunion in Newton, Co., Texas, where a lot of Clarks still live. I am going to take everything I have to a cousin of mine who knows more than anyone else about our family's history and see if it checks out with the info. he has. If I learn anything new I'll let you know. Jimmy Clark Jimmy

    3. Posted on: Clarke Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Clarke/10272 Surname: Clark, Clarke, Leavitt, Cook, Elliot ------------------------- My late Mom's research showed her g-g-grandfather to be John Clark, Jr of Campton, NH, son of John Clark and Lydia Leavitt. That has proven to be wrong. So, I am back to looking for the family of a John Clark, Jr, b.17 Sep 1788, Holderness, Grafton, NH, who married 4 Mar 1812, Plymouth, NH, Sally/Sarah Cook, b.20 Nov 1784, dau of Lieut Moody Cook and Sarah Elliot. My John Clark and Sarah Cook had five children: Charles/1815, Moody/1818, John N./1820, Sarah/1821 and Lydia/1826, all born in Campton, Grafton, NH, and all moved to LaSalle Co, IL in 1839. [Refs: Baldwin's History of LaSalle Co, IL, and Stearns' History of Plymouth, NH, Vol II] In the process of researching this, I made a Gedcom file of the entire George K. Clarke book, "Genealogy of the Descendants of Nathaniel Clarke of Newbury, Mass. Ten Generations 1642-1885", 2nd Ed. (Boston, Press of T.R. Marvin & Son. 1885) If you would like a copy of the Gedcom, send an email to million@cusave.com -- I will return your email via Reply, with the 354KB Gedcom attached. Any help you can provide identifying the correct family of my John Clark, Jr, b.17 Sep 1788, would be appreciated (but not required).

One list makes more sense than two... >> Joe and fellow subscribers, As a "newbie" to these lists, I subscribed to both, specifically because of name spelling confusion. All of my family that I have been able to identify is without the E. If I may suggest to Joe, that if possible, much of this confusion would go away if a list using CLARK(E) were developed. It seems more intuitive to me that it would be intended for both spellings. Perhaps all persons attempting to subscribe to either CLARK or CLARKE lists would automatically be subscribed to CLARK(E). Not being familiar with administration of lists, do not know if this is possible. I would be fine with unsubscribing to the CLARK list, but to go to CLARKE alone is not comfortable. Scanning recent mail, seem like a significant portion of it comes over the CLARK site. Respectfully, Doug Windhorn

    1. [CLARKE] Re: #ECR-0591041: Termination Protest Joe Arlt joearlt@juno.com
    2. It would be extremely helpful to a large segment of the genealogical community if you would reconsider your termination of Joe Arlt's address. Messages with vital statistics, family connections and local history often contain a reference to his address, joearlt@juno.com. It would be very inconvenient to many people, researchers and historians, who are unaware of your action for you to continue this termination. Consequently, I would like to add my voice to a respectful request that you reinstate Mr. Arlt's address. Thomas P. Mason, Jr.

    3. Bob, This is interesting. While I don't have your particular Rhoda Ellen, I do have a Rhoda Ellen Clark b. 1849-50 to Samuel G. and Ann C. Clark of Wayne Co, KY. Samuel was a son of Jesse Clark, Sr., and grandson of Samuel Clark/e, Sr. Of the senior Samuel Clark's nine children enumerated in early census records, only three have been identified--Samuel Jr., Jesse Sr. and Elizabeth. There are four unidentified males and two unidentified females. Since the naming patterns are fairly strong in this family line, it is entirely possible your Rhoda Ellen may be a grandchild of my Samuel Clark/e Sr. To add a little to the intrigue, my Bells and Clarks lived adjacent to some Longs in neighboring Clinton County.
