They were in the MS Terr. as early as 1778 in what would become Clarke and Washington Cos. AL., probably from SC. One of their sons was John Clarke McGrew, a name handed down through many generations. There was a William Clark who had land in AL as early as Aug. 6, 1778, but relationship, if any, to Elizabeth is unknown. Also, in Clarke Co. AL, a John Clark gave power of attorney to Malcum Clark of Cumberland Co. NC to sell land in that county for him. Feb. 13, 1819 Witnesses: W. A. Robinson and Daniel Clark. Clarke Co. AL- May 25, 1819, estate of John Clarke, dec'd. Adm. wife Abigail. Appraisers James McGoffin, Lewis Sanders, Nail (Neil?) Smith. Aug. 1819, estate of John Clarke, Abigail Farrington, Adm. They came to Alabama with Roberts dad-William & 2 brothers, William E and Henry. My great great grandfather was born in Alabama in 1837. Roberta was in Marengo Co. Looking for info on Elenor Clark and Stephen Paterson, who married 18 Apr 1816 West Field, Essex or Union NJ. I would like to see if they are the same couple as the family in Freehold, Monmouth Co, NJ. The Freehold family had a son Albert b. about 1817 and possbile daughter Jane who later (1846) lived in NYC and possible daughter Ann Eliza who married Stephen Stillwagon. Stephen died 1836-1846 and Eleanor after 1860. I have been trying for sometime to find the parents of my great grandfather, with no results anywhere. Just hopeing that someone here might be related or know something. What I do know is: . Joseph Clarke born: about 1870-1880 place unknown, probably Ky. died: about 1940's in Owen county Ky. buried: in a catholic cemetery in Covington Ky. unknown married: Josephine Grimes place: unknown, probably Ky. They had 4 known children born very early 1900's Hiesel Clarke-lived in Covington Ky. Thelma Clarke married Richard Marksberry-lived in Sparta and Owenton Ky. Nelly Clarke married unknown and moved to Frankfort Ky. Harry Clarke married Gladys Marksberry-lived in Sparta and Owenton Ky. . Believed to have all lived in the Owen and Grant county Ky. area. . Have any of you run across some Clarkes that were in Lawrence Mass 125 years ago. I'm seeking info on my grandfather's family. He was born Frederick W. Clarke on June 9, 1875 in Lawrence, according to his cemetery and obit stats. He died in 1954. He had kin in Methuen and southern NH last reported in 1950s. I know I can get information in Lawrence. I sent $5 and a SASE to them but nothing back since February. I'll make a trip up there in a few weeks.
