I also have papers that were included on a James Clarke, dont know if this is your James or not. My Patrick came from Cavan Co. Please let me know. I am searching for James Clarke, his wife whose name is not remembered, and their children John Clarke, Mabel F. Clarke, and Mary Clarke of Philadelphia. It seems that James Clarke and his three sisters - Mary Alice Clarke, Hannah Clarke, and the third sister's name- unknown all immigrated from Ireland in the 1850s. They may all have first come to Baltimore, Maryland and then the brother James Clarke settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or vice versa. Perhaps James served in the American Civil War and moved to Pennsylvania after his return. This is just speculation. Mary McCart One of the sisters was named Mary Alice Clarke. She was born in Ireland in 1843. Mary was married at the age of 19 to the American-born James McCart on January 12, 1862 at St. John the Evangelist Church in East Baltimore, Maryland. She went on to raise a large family in Baltimore. Jimmy Clarke Meanwhile her brother James (or Jimmy) Clarke was married and raising a family in Philadelphia. This more than likely was in the Kensington neighborhood of North Philadelphia in the parish of St. Michael Catholic Church. But I'm just guessing. His wife's name is unknown but he did have a son named John, and two daughters named Mabel F., and Mary. According to the Social Security Death Index, Mabel was born on October 5, 1888. Mabel grew up and married a man whose name was probably Charles W. Coleman in Philadelphia. Mabel died in April 1979 at the age of 91. The Baltimore McCart cousins did visit their Uncle Jimmy and family in Philadelphia. Great niece Barbara McCart remembered staying with the Clarke family while traveling to her honeymoon in Atlantic City with her new husband George Adelhardt in April 1919. Great nephew Jimmy McCart moved to Philadelphia in the 1920s and probably stayed with the Clarke family for awhile. Hannah McCrory Jimmy's other two sisters married and raised their families in Baltimore. Hannah married a man with the last name of McCrory and raised her three children - James J., Marie, and William Albert in a rowhome on East Eager Street in Baltimore. RUMNAP His third sister whose first name is unknown. Family legend has it that she married a man with the last name of Rumnap in Baltimore. They had three children - Henry, John, and Mary during the 1880s. The children must have been orphaned while still young because fifteen-year-old Mary Rumnap (born in 1885) is listed as living with her Uncle James McCart and family at 1519 E. Madison Street according to the 1900 Census records. If anyone can search the 1860 through 1920 census records for the James Clarke and family in Philadelphia, (or the McCarts, McCrorys, and Rumnaps in Baltimore) it would be greatly appreciated. Any other ideas about residences, churches, cemeteries, occupations, about these people would also be helpful to me. Thanks so much, Bill Horten San Diego, California williamhorten@home.com
I've been looking for my grandfather's family as well. He used the names John Albert/Charles/William Clark. He said he was born in June of 1886. His family may have been from W. Virginia. He said he was born in Illinois. I thought his mother's name was Rose. He said his parents died and he was raised by someone else. I don't know who. He married (?) my grandmother (who said her name was) Alta Orlethea Montgomery, born Christmas 1894-96. They were very mysterious about their families and wouldn't speak of them to their seven children. They were constantly on the move and their children were born in different states. None of them ever met their parent's families. Their children's names were Jack, Eleanor, Gene, Rosemary, Polly, Dixie, Florene. I of course would love to connect with someone who knows this family, but the information I have is so vague. I know both families were musical and may have been in the theatre. I also know there is a relationship to Pres. Herb Hoover, and Mr. John Tainter (who imported Jersey cattle in 1850.) I see some of the same names in your family. Do you have any more details? Was your grandfather married more than once? Thanks. I'm searching for information on three Clark brothers born at Darnley, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada .The three brothers located to the U.S.A. and the following is all of the data I have in my files and would like to hear from other descendants . John Frederick Clark died December 7th, 1878 in the Boston, massachusetts area, leaving a wife , two daughters and a son, believed to be named Henry, by his first wife Jessie who lived south, possibly New York, with her Uncle, Daniel MacKenzie.John died of pneumonia after a weeks illness. Benjamin Henry Clark, brother of John, was living in Danvers Massachusetts in 1845 where he kept a boot and shoe shop and was a shoemaker himself. A note suggests Benjamin living in Essex c-1857. Benjamin had a wife, a little boy and girl. Peter Gordon Clark, brother to Benjamin and John, in a letter to his father from Boston in 1852 states he was leaving New York for California on saturday, January 10th, on the steamer Ohio, expecting to arrive there on February 15th and was in hopes of returning within one year. He mentions that his brother John might go to California in the Spring. Peter mentions his wife and a little boy.1857 Peter living in Boston and operating a rooming house. Letter from Peter dated 1880,Washington,D.C. stating he was now 58 years old and that he was living south . I would like to correspond with others with intrest in these brothers and bring these lost families together. Thanking all for any conciderations , kindest regards , J .David

Resent from CLARK rootsweb list: According to 1905 Kansas Census, John M. CLARK (b. 1842) enlisted in state of Indiana, and was assigned to Co. E, 73rd Regiment, Infantry, and was honorably discharged. 1915 census mentioned service in artillery. Also, John M. CLARK was held in prison. Where can I find additional information such as: county in Indiana where he enlisted; hometown; prison and amount of time held; injuries (if any); etc. I will appreciate any assistance. Jean Gilmore
