Posted on: CLARK Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/c/l/CLARK/queries/10408 Surname: Clark, Travis ------------------------- Searching for family members of J. L. CLark, b. abt1868 d. 3/17/1942 in Wheatcroft, Webster Co., KY. I think he may be the father of Mary Elvah Clark who married James W. Travis. I found an obituary which said that Clark died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jim Travis. It has also been rumored in the family that Mary was either part or full Cherokee. She had the long black hair, high cheekbones and a dark complexion. Elias Clark, M.D. born September 19, 1808 died July 31, 1889 aged 81yrs. Dr. Clark resided in Cowling, Illinois (Wabash County) at the time of his death. He studied and practiced both Allopathic and Eclectic Medicine. He practiced in Obstetrics and surgery as well as family medicine. His first wife was Mary Polly Darrow. They were married in New York State on November 1, 1832 Their first child George was born in 1834 and lived only five days. The next four children were born in Ohio. Eight more chldren were born in Rochester Township, Coffee Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois. Mary's mother was Mary Ann (Polly) Gifford Chidester Darrow Young.(born 1790) Her first husband was John Peck Chidester. She died in 1875 and is buried in Washington City, Utah beside her son and his family from her first marriage... John Madison Chidester. Mary Gifford descends from Jeremiah Gifford and Phebe Williams. Mary's second husband was George Gilbert Darrow son of John Darrow and Hannah Fuller. George Gilbert Darrow was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.. He owned land in Vienna, Oneida County, N.Y. which he sold around 1820 and removed to the Raisin River in Summerfield Township Michigan. When he died in the early 1840s his step son John Madison Chidester went to Michigan and sold the family property and took his mother and younger Half siblings on the Mormon trek to Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother was one of forty three wives of John Young brother of Brigham Young. This was mainly a coat tail marriage of sorts as she never resided with John Young...seeking heaven. John Madison C. with his family and his mother can be then traced to Spanish Forks near Salt Lake and eventually to St. George and then a mile or so down the road to Washington City, Utah where they are all buried. I am looking for any information on Elias Clark's parentage....Is anyone out there familiar with this branch of Clark. SARA
Hello all, I'm new to the list and in search of the line of George Clarke of the NY/Canada border area. George Clarke married Laura Jane Lee and they had at least two children, William and Cora Lee Clarke. The "Lee" name has carried down through the women in the family to my mother-in-law. I don't have much more information on the family, but know that Cora (daughter of Laura Lee and George Clarke) was supposedly born in the Buffalo, NY area in 1895 and was "from Canada" (a city that starts with a W?) Anyway, if anyone on the list is researching Lee's in this area and thinks they might connect, I'd love to chat. There are also photos from this side of the family which belonged to Cora Lee (Clarke) Himelein posted on our website at http://christi.is.dreaming.org/photos/mmaternal , many of which are unidentified at this time. If you can identify any of them (or the places they were taken) please let me know. This is the line I have thus far, any help is appreciated! Thanks! Posted on: CLARK Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/c/l/CLARK/queries/10407 Surname: Clark, McAloon, Reidy, Steen, Sheard ------------------------- I don't know whether our Clarks connect, but my mother's grandfather was Charles Edward Clark, born probably around 1885 (my records are not at hand), was raised in Taunton, Massachusetts, married an Irish girl, Mary Theresa Reidy, and had lots of girls, and a son, Charles Edward Clark, Jr. Although he was not raised by his parents (an uncle or aunt raised him), I believe they were John Clark and Bridgit McAloon. So I don't know whether they connect, but given the naming pattern, perhaps they do. Please let me know if this ties in to your line. ==== CLARK Mailing List ==== CLARKE list is the main list ~ post Queries to CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com Please subscribe to CLARKE list at CLARKE-L-request@rootsweb.com Please unsubscribe the CLARK list at CLARK-L-request@rootsweb.com ============================== Shop Ancestry - Everything you need to Discover, Preserve & Celebrate your heritage! http://shop.myfamily.com/ancestrycatalog

Hello Listers, I am searching for information on the family of Joseph O. Clark. His parents were William Clark and Margaret McKelvey. They came through NY, and to IA. Joseph moved to Montana where he ran a livery stable in Manhatten. He married 3 times. Children were Jessie Clark Graham, Ida Clark Gordon, Margaret Clark Lueck, Albert (Boy) who died in San Francisco in 1962, and a daughter Icey. Would love to find members of this family. Thank you. Betty, You had indicated your James birth as about 1804-1810, so thot it possible that *my* Isaac born 1818 could possibly be a sibling. As I mentioned, I have just discovered my connection to Isaac CLARK (1818-1899). When I found this deed with an "Isaac" listed, I copied the names down. I haven't had the opportunity to search further in the Wood Co., WV records. Here is my CLARK connection: Isaac CLARK/Jane LEMLEY Mary CLARK/Absolom WRIGHT Harry WRIGHT/Margaret CABELL Margaret WRIGHT/Paul McGIVERN Julie McGIVERN/David VINCENT Thanks for the reply. Hi all, I will be unsubscribing for now because my mother in law had a stroke and we are in progress of putting her in a nursing home and I will be really busy the next few weeks after that getting all her household taken care of. I just don't want my mailbox to pile up with hundreds of messages. If you need to email me personally, please do as I will monitor it when I can. Hope to be back soon. Myrna Wells mpwells@swbell.net
Dear List: Who was "J. G." Clarke of Wells ca 1760, and what were his family and business connections.? TIA. 'Gene Hubbard
Julie, Yes, we are talking about the same family but I am confused as to the age of your ISAAC. My James was born abt. 1804. He had a son named Isaac O. who was born in 1842 and died after 1910. This Isaac had a son also named Isaac M. who was born 1874 and died 1920. The Isaac you speak of with Amy etc. was my James' son. I do not have any siblings for James. Wish I did! How are you connected to the Clarks? Maybe we are cousins! Betty

Does anyone have an Onus or Bowen Clark(e) in their family line? It is believed that Bowen was his given name, and Onus was his nickname. This particular Clark(e) line is from the Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia area. Onus/Bowen Clark(e) is believed to have died between 1830 and 1850, perhaps in Delaware... but that is only theory. He left a wife Ann, and son James. Would appreciate anyone's assistance with this puzzle. C.J.

To Deborah Waddell, Are you saying that this Clark family was neighbors to Thomas Jefferson (the President) or was it Thomas Jefferson Clark? The reason that I'm writing is that my great grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Clark, born abt 1829 born in Tennessee.
