    3. Christi, I don't know if there is any connections further back, but I descend from a Samuel Clark and Mary Lee who were among the very earliest settlers in Batavia , Genesee, N. Y. in 1802. I am very familiar with their descendants and do not recognize your George Clark among them. The "Lee" surname has continued down in this family as well. Mary Lee comes from Haddam , Ct. Her father's name was Abijah Lee. You may connect into this Lee family. Elaine ----- Original Message ----- From: Christi Calvert Brogan To: CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: 6/8/01 3:48:31 AM Subject: [CLARKE] Clarkes of NY/Canada Hello all, I'm new to the list and in search of the line of George Clarke of the NY/Canada border area. George Clarke married Laura Jane Lee and they had at least two children, William and Cora Lee Clarke. The "Lee" name has carried down through the women in the family to my mother-in-law. I don't have much more information on the family, but know that Cora (daughter of Laura Lee and George Clarke) was supposedly born in the Buffalo, NY area in 1895 and was "from Canada" (a city that starts with a W?) Anyway, if anyone on the list is researching Lee's in this area and thinks they might connect, I'd love to chat. There are also photos from this side of the family which belonged to Cora Lee (Clarke) Himelein posted on our website at http://christi.is.dreaming.org/photos/mmaternal , many of which are unidentified at this time. If you can identify any of them (or the places they were taken) please let me know. This is the line I have thus far, any help is appreciated! Thanks! 2. Donald Clarke
    3. Posted on: Clarke - Clark Query Board Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Clarke/10290 Surname: Clarke, Porter ------------------------- I am trying to find information on the Clarke side of my family tree. My grandfather was born May 17, 1908, in Pinconning, MI. His birth certificate lists his name as Gary Francis Clarke, although every other record I have on my grandfather (ie. his death certificate, his marriage certificate, his WW2 papers, and my father's birth certificate) lists his name as George Francis Clarke. My grandfather's parents are listed as Edgar Almen Clarke (born 1883, died Aug. 1960) and Jeanette Porter Clarke (born 1876 or 1877 according to the age on her son's birth certificate). Both Clarke parents are listed as having been born in Michigan. But I can't find anything else on Edgar A. Clarke or his ancestors. My grandfather's birth certificate lists him as being the third child of Jeanette Porter Clarke, and a couple of internet sources list a "Nettie Porter" as being married to a Syd Stocum or Stokem and a "Ned Clark". While I can't definitively trace the Clarkes any further back than late 1800s Michigan, my father Donald Clarke Sr. did receive an invitation by mail to a "Clarke Family Reunion" in 1988. My father declined the invitation, as by that time he was living in Memphis, Tennessee, and paying thousands of dollars of my mother's health bills that were not covered by the family health insurance company.

    3. Do you know if the either of the male children, Timothy or Ezra, was adopted or lived with relatives other than his mother? The one I am looking for was born in 1857 which would fit well. During this time period, children were often placed in adoption even if one parent still survived. The surviving parent was unable to provide for the children. The family I seek was from IL or WI and went to IA or KS. Lora "Charles R. 1. Re: [CLARKE] BAILEY and JAMES, Wood Co., WV
    2. Betty, I think your probably right that there is a connection between James and Bailey. From their ages I would guess brothers or cousins. I don't have anything on James, but if they were brothers you might check in Prince George County Maryland (there was a Bailey in 1790 Census, probably my Bailey's Father so possibly your James') or Allegheny County Pennsylvania (Bailey and his wife were there between 1844 and 1850, and two or three of there children were born there). Also one of their son's (Joseph) married a woman from Wirt County and later another one from PA. Bailey and Elizabeth were married in Jackson County and after 1860 show up until 1880 in Jackson County, don't know what happened to them after that....yet. If I come across a definite connection I'll let you know. Also does the name Leverot show up for first or middle name in any of your men? I definitely think that B. Marcellus could be for Bailey and Marcellus isn't real common name anyway, so I bet there is a connection. We'll just have to keep digging. Let me know if you come across anything else. We may be cousins when all is said and done. Beverly
