    3. My mother was a Wilson too. Her mother was a Carlyle, but step father was Thomas C. Clark from Asheville, NC. I wonder if the Wilson side would connect too. Thomas was born about 1860 in NC and was married to Rebeca Carlil in 1877. He was on the 1880 census with Rebeca and her mother, but never on any other census with Rebeca, but Rebeca had children thru 1899 and they were Clarks. Any connection. 1. [CLARKE] Ruth Ann, gr granddau. of Sir Wm CLARKE
    2. Becky Smith
    3. I'm hoping for a miracle. This is my 25-year brick wall. My gg grandmother was Ruth Ann CLARK/E, b. 9-30-1814 in GA, according to the 1850-1860 census records. If correct, she was prob. b. in Franklin Co, GA when it encompassed part of what is now northwest South Carolina. According to one item I've seen, Ruth Ann was a great granddaughter of Sir William CLARKE who resigned the British Navy to fight with the American colonists in the Revolutionary War, and rec'd an honorable mention at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The same article named her mother as Amelia HOOPER, and said Amelia's father was William HOOPER, signer of the Declaration of Independence. I believe Amelia's father was Matthew Brooks HOOPER who married Elizabeth Adams "Betsy" WORD (Jr.). Matthew was a son of Obediah HOOPER & Massilva BROOKS of VA and GA. Amelia Monroe HOOPER, b. Feb 10, 1796, Pendleton Dist, SC; d. Oct 25, 1850, Tishomingo Co, MS; m. John CLARK/E ca. 1811-1812, probably either in Franklin Co, GA or in Pendleton Dist, SC. John CLARK/E & Amelia Monroe HOOPER had three daughters: 1. Elizabeth W.(Word?) CLARK/E, b. Jul 7, 1813, no further info. Prob. b. in Franklin Co, GA. 2. Ruth Ann CLARK/E, b. Sep 30, 1814, GA (prob. Franklin Co); d. Jun 21, 1884, Alcorn Co, MS (previously Tishomingo); and m. Fenton B. HALL Nov. 23, 1830. Ruth and Fenton moved in 1848 to Tishomingo Co, MS (where her mother died in 1850) and the last three of their 12-13 children were born there, including my great grandfather, Virgil Miller HALL. 3. Harriett Perry CLARK/E, b. Sep 19, 1818, prob. in GA. No further info on her. John CLARK/E would have been a grandson of Sir William CLARKE mentioned above. I'm trying to find the identity of John's father. John's wife Amelia HOOPER's family has close ties to the big WORD family and the ADAMS family and she was supposedly related to the Presidents ADAMS. I have quite a bit of information on the WORDs and some on the ADAMS as well as other related families, including Ruth's HALL in-laws. Can anyone help me connect John CLARK/E with his parents? [Note: Amelia Hooper CLARK/E remarried to James Dickinson WORD, Sr. and they had 9 more children. One was Matthew Franklin WORD and "my" Ruth Ann named one of her sons Matthew Franklin HALL.] Thanks for any help and ideas! Becky Smith

    1. Re: [CLARKE] Descendants of Samuel Clark b. NJ 1768, d. MO 1854 m. Mary Darby...
    2. Joe and others, That is the info I have based on the book: Clark of Elizabeth Town in New Jersey, by Elmer Sayre Clark, 1942. Elmer was a grt. grandson of Samuel Jr. and Phoebe. I found this book at the Library of Congress in DC. It was a limited edition and apparently is long out of print. My one regret is that the one cousin most interested in any relationship with Abraham Clark of NJ died before I had a chance to let him know. Abraham is a part of the Richard and Elizabeth Clark family. Samuels father's will names him and his sisters, but his mothers will names only the sisters. I would guess that she didn't name Samuel because he had been gone from NJ for about 20 years by then. I welcome comment from any part of this family group. Don Clark

John Oscar Clark (my grandfather) was married several times and he had 2 daughters. They were Lillian (Clark)White, who married Zack White, and Pearl (Clark) Crigger. I don't recall Pearl's husbands name, but I am guessing Will. Pearl Crigger lived in Missouri and Lillian lived in Apache, Oklahoma. John Oscar Clark was my grandfather.. Lillian White and Pearl Crigger were my Dad's half sisters. My dad was Miles Clark. .My maiden name was Virginia Clark and my parents were Miles & Ruth Clark. I have a sister named Phyllis. We lived in Hutchinson and Great Bend, Kansas in our growing up years. I hope someone sees this and can give me some information about Lillian White and Pearl Crigger. Ginny Denney

    2. OH NO! Please don't contact via personal email!! I have a John Woodbury in my line that I am trying to research and would love to know the answer to all of the above! 1. [CLARKE] FROM LIST ADMIN > Replying to the Board messages & etc.
    2. Sue
    3. Hello Clarke / Clark cousins... Let's do the & etc. first: 1. Virus warnings are off topic. No exceptions. Violators will be put on the reject list and their postings will be moderated. Send any to list manager CLARKE-admin@rootsweb.com 2. Subject lines: the digest form has a reminder ++ Please, customize your subject lines. ++ this applies to all messages L or D form. To see the importance of a good subject line, check the list archives at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/clarke ~ or ~ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/clark Replying to the Board messages: We have had a few examples of messages you will be seeing from the boards, and yes, some of them do look like questions only, the person is usually resoponding to an earlier post. Here's help trying to figure this out. I would like to give you two links to post a response to these messages, you may want to bookmark them. They will appear as taglines in our messages. Note the E / no E. ==== CLARKE Mailing List ==== Boards > Surnames > Clarke - post a topic below, defaults to the list! http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.clarke Query, Bible, Bio, B, Cem, Cen, D, Deed, Imm, Lkup, Mar, Mil, Obit, Pen, Will ~ or ~ ==== CLARKE Mailing List ==== Boards > Surnames > Clark - post a topic below, defaults to the list! http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.clark Query, Bible, Bio, B, Cem, Cen, D, Deed, Imm, Lkup, Mar, Mil, Obit, Pen, Will Anything coming from the CLARK list will only have the tagline ==== CLARK Mailing List ==== CLARKE list is the main list ~ post Queries to CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com Please subscribe to CLARKE list at CLARKE-L-request@rootsweb.com Please unsubscribe the CLARK list at CLARK-L-request@rootsweb.com Until RootsWeb programmers can get some "bugs" fixed, there will not be a link in the messages coming from the boards. About the only way to tell where it is coming from will be to look in your email program and click on "Properties" - usually found under File. Click on it and it will reviel something that looks like the header below. You will see Sender: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Messages coming from our own list do not have gc-gateway in the header. The only other way is to check the website and see if it was posted there. They are working hard at getting this fixed, just didn't want anyone to miss a connection! EXAMPLE - you will see something like this... X-Original-Sender: xxxxx@xxx.com From: xxxxx@xxx.com Old-To: CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com Sender: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <<<<< this tells you it is comming from the Boards and a copy has defaulted to the list. ALL postings to the Clark board default to the CLARK email list, which is moderated, they will appear on the CLARKE email list and show as [CLARKE][CLARK] so you will know that they came from the Clark Board not the Clark email list. I want to reasure you that if you are a member of the CLARKE list you will see all postings to the following: Clarke list, Clarke board, Clark board. Clark board can only default to the Clark list, it's corresponding list. The Clark list is moderated and postings default to me, the list manager and I follow up by getting these folks subbed to the CLAKRE list. So, we have - [CLARKE] = comes from the Clarke list to the Clarke list. [CLARKE] = comes from the Clarke Board to the Clarke list. [CLARK] = comes from the Clark Board to the Clark list - subscribers get duplicates. [CLARKE][CLARK] = comes from the Clark Board via the Clark list to the Clarke list. Okay, if you've read this far - kudos to you! Please remember, I am here to aid you in your searches, anything you need to ask privately, do so at the email address below. Thanks for your contiued support and understanding, Sue Downhill, List Manager, CLARKE / CLARK surname CLARKE-admin@rootsweb.com
