    1. [CLARKE] Re: William Clark, KY
    2. Fay Clark
    3. I'd like to hear more about this family. The names and locations are ringing some bells: Samuel CLARK b. 1775 VA (another census record says NC); 1st wife unknown (poss. Jean BAKER, but I have not seen proof); 2nd wife Hannah JAMES WADE was the widow of Elisha WADE b. 30 Sep 1773 Goochland Co, VA. Elisha's father was Richard WADE, Sr., a Revolutionary War veteran who arrived at Fort Boonsborough (KY) 12 Oct 1777. He lived in Madison Co, KY, until Dec 1801 when he migrated to Wayne County, KY. That is where my Samuel CLARK, Sr., first appears in the 1820 Census. Samuel had at least nine children by his first wife, three of whom are known: Samuel CLARK, Jr. b. 1794-1800 (nothing else is known about him) Jesse CLARK/E, Sr. b. 1800-1801 NC m. Sarah BELL, d/o Francis BELL of Randolph Co, NC d. bef. 1885 Wayne Co, KY Elizabeth CLARK b. 1805 KY m. William BELL, Jr. and migrated to Missouri The oldest son of Jesse CLARK/E, Sr., was John B. CLARK/E. Given the recurring naming patterns in this family, it is very likely John B. CLARK/E was named after a relative. Also, Wayne County contained an enclave of Revolutionary War veterans, most likely because portions of this area were designated for military land grants. Two Clarks who received land grants along the Otter Creek watercourse were a James CLARK of VA and a William CLARK (probably also VA). Two sons of the above James CLARK (b. bef. 1765)--John CLARK b. bet. 1794-1800 and Robert CLARK b. bet. 1794-1802--migrated to Illinois, county unknown. Another Revolutionary War vet who settled in Wayne was John HALL, Sr. b. 1758 Anne Arundel Co, MD. John's daughter Permelia married Lindsey BELL, brother-in-law of Jesse CLARK. A second John HALL, b. 1794 NC was poss. a son or grandson of the above John Hall, Sr. married Mary HENRY b. Nov 1798 Danville, Madison Co, KY. Mary was the d/o William HENRY and Rosannah WADE (d/o Richard WADE, Sr.) Lydia HENRY, sister of Mary, m. Jonathan BOONE. I do not know how Jonathan is related to the Boone family, but it is documented that Daniel and Israel BOONE were both in Wayne County. These families all appear to have been as mobile as the American family today, crisscrossing and migrating throughout VA, NC & KY, and sometimes beyond. It has made tracking my Samuel CLARK very difficult, to say the least. Two straws I'm grasping at is the apparent longstanding relationships he had with the BELLs who migrated to Wayne County from Randolph County, NC, and the WADEs who came to Wayne from Madison County, KY. I'm hoping William CLARK may be a missing piece of the puzzle. Clark, son of John and Obedience, was born on 13June1773 in VA and died 31Jan1852 in Fulton Co. KY married 9Jan1792 in Madison Co. KY to Mary Hall and thus would not be the father of the 6 Clark brothers that include G.R. and Wm. Clark. This is according to the book on that family I have. I would love to find out more on that branch as well as John and Obedience's branch for they live near each other and the names used in the families are very similar.

    1. Re: [CLARKE] Clarke/Clerke connections?
    2. Cyrus Clarke
    3. Hi Eola, My name is Cyrus Clarke and I am descendant of Joseph Clarke, brother of John Clarke. The John Clarke I am referring to is the one who was born in Suffolk, 1609 and died in Rhode Island, 1676. John Clarke did not have any children; it is his brother, Joseph who is the progenitor in America. I think the only info you have wrong is the fact that Joseph was his brother, not his son. If your info is not correct, I can help you out. I have seen, held, and read the Clarke family bible brought over by John and Joseph in the 1630's as well as a lot of the documents about and burial sites of the Clarke family and have quite a bit of non-internet sourcing on this. Let me know if I can help you out. I will post my bulk Surname data that has been altered so as NOT to trigger those sensors. I don't want my bulk posting to cause unnecessary triggerings. If this doesn't work, then I will delete my bulk Signature postings. It has been my Intent to reach out for others to see on bulletins Surnames that I have, and which are somewhat Interrelated, but I don't care to cause a problem in so doing. Thank you for bearing with me for this one Test shot. I apologize for any Inconvenience that I have unknowingly caused anyone - I was unaware of PML or Other types of sensors, but in this Day of no privacy, it shouldn't surprise us. 1. [CLARKE] Fw: Personal e-mail Conversations onCLARKE-L :
    2. Carroll H Clark
    3. I don't mean to be rude, or "picky" but my Friends, why should there be personal conversations going back - and -forth on the CLARKE-L, or -D, or any Other surname site when these conversations could, or should, be accomplished on a one-on-one or personal e-mail addresses basis. When FYI has Information that Others could profit from, then I could understand having the chit-chat back & forth via the CLARKE-L, or D versions bulletins, or Sites. Wouldn't it be better to Meet via the Site such as CLARKE-L, (or D versions) and THEN carry out the great communications using each other's personal e-mail address(es). One, or more, can still carry on the personal communications. But, to put all these conversations on the CLARKE-L, or any Other surname site for ALL to see, when NOTHING pertains to them, I cannot understand having items posted at a Site such as we are using to Post items which aren't of value to anyone but the persons communicating with each other. I know that there is a Delete button, but it should have to be used for unnecessary personal communications that don't pertain to those not involved. I hope this doesn't sound like an unreasonable request, nor a request that is overly "picky" or harsh, but I do hope that we could have better information via our Surname sites, than to have to read other persons personal communications, UNLESS it would have VALUABLE names, dates, places, etc. for the rest of us. When requesting information, or Queries which we all do, we need to include: Dates, Names, Places, etc. which helps to narrow down possible answers to the Queries. We see so many postings where a few names are mentioned, with no dates, or places, etc., making for an almost impossible means of answering the Query. There are so many postings with this lack of information. There are myriads of People "out there" having the same or very similar names, in the same areas. It makes it easier to try to Help if as much information a Query as possible. I don't mean typing out whole masses of Family, but getting to the Point of the Query by supplying the essential data. Names, dates, places, events in order to tie to something that will supply a Clue. Thank you, Good Hunting, and I Hope that I have NOT affended ANYONE on here or any other Site for Genealogy, as I do mean well by my Comment. Carroll CLARK, Snohomish, WA. (b. here 1924) 30 mi. 3. LollieG, I have a William Clark (Clerk in his will) who died in 1750 in Lancaster Co., VA. I don't know anything further except his children's names and that his second wife was named Winifred. This from his will. Since age could match I thought there may be a chance our Williams were one in the same. Let me know what you think. 3. I would like to be on all Clark/Clarke -L lists but all of these notes are very confusing and time consuming. Please put me on all. Since the name in earlier times had an E on the end wouldn't most peole want to be on both? The CLARK-L has not taken new members for the last two months (or so). This causes them to receive duplicate postings, increasing the volume of mail they receive and have to wade through. Please, take a moment, go to Password Central, look and see if you are on the CLARK-L. If CLARK-L (no e) is on the list, please send an unsubscribe message, I will take care of it for you - yes, you will receive the {not a subscriber} message - you will get this because the list is moderated and the list manager needs to do it manually. > Password Central: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ > > More <sigh!> later... > Sue, List Manager > > ==== CLARKE Mailing List ==== > Boards > Surnames > Clarke ~ posts default to the CLARKE-L > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.clarke > Bible, Bio, B, Cem, Cen, D, Deed, Imm, Lkup, Mar, Mil, Obit, Pen, Will

    2. I am sure there is no connection as the William I am looking for was born Dec. 23, 1668 St. Charles Parish, York, Va. 1. [CLARKE] Clarke, Trois Rivieres Quebec
    2. S. Swain
    3. Hi I'm fairly new to the list and am posting for the first time. Searching for info on John William Clarke Jr., born in 1857 to William Clarke Sr and Marie Ann Carroll. Although his obituary says he was born in Montreal, family tales say he was born in County Cork and came to Canada with his parents at a young age. He settled in Manitoba, but it appears the rest of his siblings (which have been said to be a large number, possibly 17) settled in the Trois Riviere area of Quebec. He died at the age of 94 in 1952 and is buried at Manigotagan Manitoba. Is there anyone on the list with Clarkes from the Trois Riviere area? Any help would be appreciated Susan

Which is the older, larger list and covers both the "E / no E" surname.
