I don't know any Dwelles (yet), and don't know George Clarke yet, although I got a message from him. Are you or your husband related to the Percy Clarke who lived in western New York in the 1800s?
Hello, Am still looking for a connection for my Great-grandmother, Elizabeth E. CLARK who was born 1851, in Detroit, MI. The 1880 Census of Jefferson County, IL shows that Her parents were born in TN. Elizabeth E. CLARK was married to a Mr. MILLER before marrying my Great-grandfather (his 3rd wife) who was a preacher. Thanks for any help that you can give me. David McKELVEY dmcke93304@aol.com Note: Unless told otherwise, sharing information with me is okay to share with others. Let's keep Genealogy FREE.
Nan, I am interested in your Clarks, as my Clarks came from North Carolina, Tennessee and went to Arkansas sometime in the 1860's. What do you have on your Clark Ancestors. I can send you what I have. Dear Listers, I saw some comments regarding that most Clark(e) researchers on this list mainly discuss North American families without many requests for English connections. Well I must say that I agree that it would be nice to see more e-mails requesting Clark(e) lines from England. My Clark(e) line immigrated to the US in 1835 from a little village 75 miles north of London called Chatteris. Thomas Clark(e) left Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England with his wife, Sarah, and their children and arrived in New York on August 11, 1835. It is believed that Thomas' brothers John and James left about the same time leaving no immediate family members in Chatteris with the exception of Aunts and Uncles. The family was in Onondaga County, New York in 1840 and then in Van Buren County, Michigan by 1846. And then as they say, the rest is history. By the way, if any of you Clark(e) researchers can get across the pond and even into the county of Cambridgeshire, I would recommend that you become a member of the Cambridgeshire Family History Society even if you can't connect to my family. Sue, A while back, there was information about the very question you asked! It said that Clark was a separate list from Clarke BUT because of the spelling of Clark/Clarke being interchangeable according to census takers it would be best to stay on the Clarke list because it covers both spellings. The Clark list covers only that spelling. To cover all my tracks, I am on both! As you know, I am looking for James Clark b. 1805 or 1809 (census)SC m. Elvina b. 1811 SC. Moved to Marion Co. GA by 1830. Remained their until his death. IF you ever come across my James or a hint of my James let me know. I am a believer in great leaps of faith and shots in the dark! This is a monumental brick wall. He had Kidd and Morrow children living in his household in Marion Co. on the 1850-70 census. The children were b. in SC. Somehow, through all the research, I keep going back to the Waxhaws of NC/SC which includes Anson, Mecklenburg, Union Co. NC and Chester, Lancaster, and York Co. SC. Talk later. Nora Searching for: PHELPS, WEST, CLARK, LEE (two lines), RICHARDSON, GRINER (GREINER), BRUNSON, MCLEOD, GREGORY, PALMER, HICKS, BROWN, CHAPPELL, SCOTT, ACTON, CROCKETT and more. All came to GEORGIA from NY, CT, VA, KY, NC, SC. Most stayed, but some went on to: FL, LA, TX.
