Hello, I just had to reply to this entry, even though I don't think it is my Clark. When reading the message Onondaga LEAPT out at me because I was born in Onondaga Township, but, Then the let-down...the message states Onondaga County, New York whereas mine is Onondaga Township, Brant County, Ontario, Canada. Oh well, for a moment there I thought finally my tree was getting some leaves. Thanks anyway for the moment of hope. Sue, I am also wanting the Clark families from NY and then went west to as far as I have found so far is in Nebraska. Hope to hear from some of them. Laura
I am working on Clarkes from mainly the Tidewater Virginia area... have seen no others on this list researching these except my sisters. There is a "slight" possibility there is a connection to North Carolina, Kentucky, or Tennessee... Don't know of a northern connection. My gr-gr-grandfather, Jacob Charles Clark, was born ca 1802/1806 (depending on what record you're reading) in NC according to the 1850 Hamilton Co,IL census. From there he and wife Kassey(probably Katharine) (unknown) were in TN ca1828/1829 and then in Hamilton Co,IL 1836-fwd. Since the census doesn't indicate which county in NC, I don't know where to start looking. Do these names sound familiar. I would so like to find their ancestors. I have Jacob and Kassey's children and right many of their descendants which I will be glad to provide, if desired. George W. Clark was born 2 Feb. 1806 in Virginia. He married "P.D." (name otherwise unknown), born 1810 in North Carolina. Based on an obituary of his daughter, Mary "Molly" L. Clark, George W. Clark moved with his family to Mississippi about 1844. He died 7 Dec. 1889 in Hinds Co., MS. In addition to Molly Clark, other known children are R.C. Clark, William Henry Clark, and "Mrs. R.A. Drummond." Any information on this family would be very much appreciated. Mike Chapman

The Percy my husbands mentions seems to be in his 60's if still alive. He seems to only know of those who lived in Detroit where he grew up and California. It seems that Dwelle somehow thru marriage is a big part of his family. Only other thing I know is that the family is of bi racial heritage. I'll ask him about the Percy you mentioned. And will get back withyou.
I thought to try posting my information again. James Clarke b. 7 May 1798 d. 19 Oct 1868 Chillicothe, Ross Co, Ohio m. 4 Feb 1823 Ross Co, Oh to Sarah Quinn b. 25 Dec 1804 Fairfield Co, Oh d. 14 Dec 1873 Ross Co, Oh (daughter of Rev. I am not sure where James was born as his obituary (Scioto Gazette) states he was born on the Eastern shore of Maryland in 1798 and the 1850 census for Ross Co, Oh says he was born in Delaware. The obituary also says "When 18 months old he came with his parents to this county, his father dying a few months after his arrival here." James Clarke was bound as an apprentice to the business of a carpenter. Later in life, he was one of the first wholesale grocery merchants in Chillicothe, Oh. Matthew Hamilton Clarke served in the Civil War. His wife, Clara Core, was the granddaughter of Col John McDonald noted author, pioneer, statesman, and soldier. Matthew and Clara had 5 children: 1-Theodore Russell m. Emma Allemang 2-David Elsworth 3-Lewis Greenwood 4-Allison (male) 5-Sarah Ella Oral family history says one of the children moved to California but I do not know if they meant one of James's children or one of Matthew's. I have been searching for information on all of these people. Pam Dawson

The son is in a WWI uniform of a Major and the father is wearing his Confederate uniform. The father has a long white beard. Both men are "standing at attention." George Lafayette Clark was born 09 June 1843, Winston Co. MS and died 1919 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the son of James Green Clark and Frances Webb. No details on George's first wife, but his second wife was Mary L (Molly) Jenkins whom he married on 21 Aug 1883, Erath Co. TX. She was born 25 April 1857, died in childbirth 21 Nov 1889. Their son, Tracy Macune Clark was born 25 Jan 1888. He married Nina Bartlett, 24 June 1919. He died 09 Oct 1959 and is buried in Waco, TX. He and his wife had no children. The Fort Worth, TX submitter's connection (N. Dingmore) is that Tracy Clark's mother, Molly Jenkins Clark, was his grandmother's sister. His grandmother, Lavina Elizabeth Jenkins Lindsey, raised the infant daughter born in 1889, named Lillian. Hopefully, this "snippet" will provide just the right clue to a researcher. One of my paternal great grandmother's was Harriet Clarke Greenhalgh. They lived in the Halifax area of Yorkshire in the 1881 census. Harriet is shown as 30 yrs of age and Sheffield as her place of birth. I would appreciate any help or information. Richard Greenhalgh was her husband and he was a stone mason.
Hi All, It would really help if the subject line included more information, such as state and approximate years. So many come to us labeled very cryptically, such as "Clark Family" or "My Clarks" or "James Clark." I'm afraid to say that I haven't got time to open that type, as I'm on three lists and receive over 100 e-mails per day. On the other hand, if I see a subject line which is very specific, I'll know right away whether or not it may pertain to the family I'm researching. I'm sure that I'm failing to read postings which may pertain to me, but see no other option than to be selective in what I open and read. I think we'd have a much greater response if we tried to include date and location in the subject line, such as "Alexander Clark d 1777 in Monmouth County, NJ." In this fashion, people who have no connection to that name, location or time period can just delete the posting unread, thereby saving time. Judi
Seeking info on my gggg-grandmother: Granny Clark(e) ,possibly nee Mary Stewart/Steward, b ca 1779 Chesterfield Co., SC. d ca 1854 AL?. Possibly three marriages and a son (all Jrs) from each of these unions: Hiram Stewart (my gggg-grandfather), William Griffin, Samuel?? Clark(e). Mary Griffin was taken to trial, charges unknown, in 1807 and 1809 AL?, but was found "not guilty". Heresay is that Mr. Clark(e) was a jurist during these trials, and that is how they met and married??? Thusly she became known as Granny Clark(e). So just wondering if anyone has info on this lady. Please email lyndarose6@hotmail.com -- Thanks!! My roadblock!!
