    1. [CLARKE] Clarke, Suffolk
    2. Looking for ancestors of Robert William Clarke born c.1880. I have only just started my search but thought perhaps he might be connected to some of the other Clarke's from Suffolk. He had at least 4 siblings, whose given names were: Jack (possibly John as it is a family name) Clarke, Florence and Fanny. Family rumour has it that a number my great-grandfather (Robert William)'s aunts and uncles emergrated to Canada. Any info most welcome.

    1. [CLARKE] Little tidbit - Alexander Clark - York Co., SC
    2. Sue Howard
    3. Seems like I've seen some references to an Alexander Clark. Here is one little tidbit about an Alexander Clark of York Co., SC. "Clark, Alexander. Mentioned in Alexander Love's will (Book A, pages 48-52, No. 27, Craven County, SC, dated March 20, 1781) when he willed son James Love 100 acres to be divided off on the side adjoining Samuel Curry's and Alexander Clark's land." (From The Quarterly, YCGHS, June 1989, p. 6) Not much, but every little bit helps, I say. Sue Howard

    1. [CLARKE] Edward Dinniwell re Kardos
    2. emilyjkardos
    3. Kardos is really a Hungarian name. However, ours (my husband's) was changed on Ellis Island from the Greek name of Karadomoglous or Kardomoglous because the Ellis Island officials said they couldn't spell it or pronounce it. I am grateful that it was done before I married my husband.

    3. The Bill/William Clark I am seeking might have been in IL and then Iowa. He originally was from NYC. He might have been the father or uncle of Owen Clarkborn 1866/67 who was adopted by Joseph T. and Joanna Shay Young in Iowa. It was a family secret for many years. Other associated names are Erb, Bradley, and Lovejoy. We are eager to determine who the father of OWEN CLARK was for genetic as well as genealogical reasons. There is a genetic health problem in the family. What are the dates for Your William R. Clark? If Owen Clark predates your William are there other Williams that go back to about 1830? Which of your Clarks went to Il and IA and about what year? Thank you, Grant Young "Lisa R. I have not been able to find out anything about Owen or his father. What I can find is a census record of a child named Alexander with Owen's exact birthday on it. The father and mother are listed as Alexander and Elizabeth (Pauley). I haven't been able to confirm that this is our Owen but I strongly suspect that it is. Especially now that you have called him Owen Alexander. We have carried the name Allen through our family and assumed it came from Owen A. it turns out that it came from the McClure side rather than the Clark side. Later we heard that the initial "A" in Owen's name was for Alec. I started to suspect that perhaps it was Alex and short for Alexander. I think our Owen was called Alexander on the early census records. Please contact me. > > > Do you live in West Virginia perhaps? If so I could come down and visit. In a Houston, Texas newspaper article dated 1903, Edmond C. Clark of Rochester NY is named as the only attendant available (prior to the Drs arrival) when President McKinley was shot in Buffalo. He worked at the medical facility at the Exposition and assisted with the care of the President. After that he came to Texas, to the Galveston area for awhile. He wanted to join the military as a medical person, and finally did that when he left Texas in 1903. The news article was recently reprinted along with several other "old" news items from the newspapers archived history. stitchn@ev1.net ======================== Subject: harold hurren From_: ddetgen@aol.com Sun Aug 5 17:13:08 2001 looking for any information on harold hurren. his parents were James and Anna Hurren. I have heard stories he was married first to a Sarah or Elizabeth but have no record. 1. [CLARKE] John B. Clarke 1791-1855 Anderson Co. SC
    2. Susan Johanson
    3. John B. Clarke/Clark seems to be pretty common unfortunately. Also John Baylis seems to be common, perhaps named for the Earles- John Baylis Earle, and Baylis Earle. My John B. Clarke could have come from the Greenville, SC area because his wife Jennie Sammons was probably from Greenville where most of the Sammons lived. Jennie could have been a sister of Dudley C. (perhaps Clark) Sammons (1802-Greenville Dist-1862 Greenville). Dudley married Nancy Harriet Clarke and we don't know who her parents are either. Since both of these Clarkes married Sammons, there is likely a connection. I don't know where John was before 1833 when he was at an estate sale for Elisha Bennett in Anderson Co. SC. He states in the 1850 census that he was born in SC. Like I have said, He is my mystery man and I appreciate any information and/or clues. Susan Clark Johanson -- Susan C.
