Hi Donna, I cannot help you with the place and date of Richard Clarkes death. It doesn't mention anymore than he died there in Pennyslvania. I think it would be around late 1600 to early to mid 1700s judging by two generations after it is still into late 1700's. Doesn't mention any other Clarkes going to USA. So this Richard may have started a line or two. His father was Richard also. If your Richard was the son of Richard, maybe that is a clue. Sorry I cannot be of more help. He was probably living in Boston, MA, or one of the Boston suburbs. It's possible he was related to Mary Anna CLARK who was born in Westport, MA, in 1837, to James and Rhoda CLARK. Mary Anna had married John DEXTER who had been born in Killingly, CT, in 1837. I don't know where or when they married, or where they lived for the first 30 years of their marriage, etc. What I do know is that in 1892, at Age 55, they adopted a 3-year-old girl. They re-named the girl .. Mary Anna Clark DEXTER. In 1899, Mrs. Dexter died and Mary Anna reportedly left the Dexter home, possibly going to live in "The Temporary Home" on Chardon St. in Boston, MA. In 1911, when Mary "May" got married, she listed her father as William CLARK. We have no idea who this man was. A good guess is that he was somehow related to Mrs. Dexter, and we wonder if "May" went to live with this CLARK family when Mrs. Dexter died. (We have no idea what happened to John DEXTER after 1899. But, I am now finding out that this DEXTER couple seemed to only live in Melrose, MA, during the few years when they were caring for this little girl (~1890 to 1899) ..)

He married Mrs. Rhoda LAVARE, who was the former Rhoda MANCHESTER. James stated that he had come from Little Compton, RI. But, there is no way of knowing whether he was born there, or whether he lived there prior to moving to Westport, MA. If he married a widow, there is always the possibility that he had a first marriage. James and Rhoda had a daughter, Mary Anna, in 1837. I would very much like to find out if they had other children. Rhoda had 3 children from her first LAVARE marriage.
HI, I thought I was able to help as I have some old Clarke Pedigrees out of the old books such as Familie Minorum Gentilum. Some of the early ones of the 16 hundreds came from around Wakefield, Yorks or sheffield and other places. Then There is another peidgree from the Pedigree Register, this mainly covers places in Lancashire. Such as Liverpool. this family was said to have come from Ireland originally. One that may interest families in the USA is a Richard who died in Pennyslvannia. He was the son of Richard Clarke of the Angel in Chesterfield, vinter. He is called John in Mr Homfray's pedigree, but erroneoulsly. I do not have that page from that book. Anyway Richards mother was Ann Shaw, died 7 Jan 1690-. Richard the fathers fther was Ralph Clarke of Chesterfield, vinter. it says see page 145. I sdo not seem to have that so anyone interested would have to get the Famillae Minorum Gentium MS 135, Nit sure f that is the volume number. this will continue that family Line. Richard who died in Pennyslvannia had a brother Sir Samuel Clarke, Kent, of London, citizen and Skinner; Knighted 14th June 1712. And also a sister Mary Clarke, wife of John Wingfield. Can't understand why I didn't copy all of the Clarke pages. I must have run out of time when we were briefly living in England on a working holiday a few years back. British library have these books as do most major Egnlsih libraries and overseas reference libraries in some cases.
