My husband's has a Gudger family in his line. The information was that they had come from Scotland, but no one seemed to have heard of the name. They were involved with the Bairds. Today in reading "Dry Creek-A History of Dry Creek and Weaverville,NC" I found that Gudgers apparently came from Scotland around 1770 from the Highlands. The problem seems to be whether Gudger was a form of MacGregor, or McGregor, according to the Russell Sage Institute which has been studying clans, or McGoodyear. Has anyone heard of the name? Also,another name entered the picture, a William Welch who was the father of Jane Welch who married Bedent Baird. William Welch was born in Scotland in probably the 1720's-1740's. Donna Nichols
