    1. [CLANBOYD] Boyd of Sandy Mush Creek, Buncombe County, NC, now Madison Co., NC - Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Burke and Haywood Counties, NC
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Good morning all Boyd of Sandy Mush Creek, Buncombe County, NC, now Madison Co., NC James Boyd is said to have been born in 4 February 1769 in Ireland (County unknown at this time), and died 12 November 1852 – assume at Sandy Mush creek area, Buncombe County, North Carolina. He is said to have first settled in Mecklenburg County, NC, perhaps with two brothers John Boyd and David Boyd. On 18 December 1794 he married Rachel McGill in Lincoln County, NC, who also came from County Tyrone. He is said to have purchased land on the Bee Tree Creek in Buncombe County, NC in 1806. And he is thought, later to have brought some 1,000 acres at Sandy Mush Creek, and were neighbours to each other. James and Rachel, only have two known sons – James Berry Boyd, born 7 August 1798 and Robert McGill Boyd born 23 October 1800. But the four – year gap between their marriage and James Berry Boyd’s birth would normally suggest that one or two children were born in this period. But James’s, the father, will in December 1840 only mentions these two sons and no daughters. There is an reasonable structure for the descendants of these two sons which is being developed. However, at this time, nothing seems to be known about the possible two brothers of James Boyd, born 1769 – John and David Boyd. So, is anyone researching these two names in North Carolina in the late 1700’s. It is thought they came in from Ireland through Charleston, South Carolina? So, are there any passenger list available for the Port of Charleston, SC in the 1700’s? And does anyone know of “any” Boyd families in Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Burke, Madison Buncombe and Haywood Counties that maybe lined to this James Boyd – especially any John Boyd and David Boyd? Thank you for your assistance in building this family tree Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee Clan Boyd
