I am researching BOYD families in early Pickaway Co., OH. My ancestors, Ann or Anna Boyd b. abt. 1805 in NY and Michael VanBuskirk b. July 22, 1794 in MD. married December 1, 1824 in Pickaway Co., OH. Michael and Ann Boyd VanBuskirk are in the 1840 Union Co., OH census, the 1850 and 1860 Marion Co., OH, census. Anna appears to have died bet. 1860-1866 in Marion Co., OH. She is not listed in that counties death records or the 1870 Marion Co., OH census with Michael VB. Other Boyd's who married in Pickaway Co., OH in the same time frame are: Boyd, Lemuel to Beckett, Anna Jan 24, 1821 Boyd, Catherine to Heeter, Peter Apr 3, 1822 Boyd, William to Ruckman, Margaret Dec 9, 1824 It seems possible that Lemuel, Catherine, William, and my ancestor Anna Boyd could be connected. Lemuel Boyd and Anna Beckett appear to have moved to Warren Co., IN and show up in the 1830 census: 1830 Warren Co., IN Census: Boyd, Lemuel 2100110000000 0000100000000 2 males under 5 1 male 5-10=Benjamin Boyd (pedigree listed with ancestry.com) 1 male 20-30 1 female 20-30=Anna Beckett Living nearby are Benjamin Becket, William Becket, and Mary Becket. Mary Becket appears to be a widow and mother of all these Beckets. The surname is actually spelled BECKETT. Lemuel Boyd is listed as a Justice of the Peace in Past and Present of Fountain and Warren Counties Indiana by Thomas A. Clifton and in the Warren County Centennial 1927 by Cecil E. Haupt: "The second marriage was June 19, 1828 , between James Perrin and Cassandra Clark, Lemuel Boyd, Justice of the Peace." Source: Past and Present of Fountain and Warren Counties Indiana by Thomas A. Clifton [Page 211-213.] Date 1/1/1913. After the organization of the county in 1827, the voters proceeded to the election of the various county officers. James Cunningham served as the first Clark, Auditor and Recorder, all of these offices being combined in one. William Beckett was elected sheriff; Enoch Farmer, Treasurer, and Perrin Kent was appointed Surveyor by the Governor. The first Justices of the Peace were Thomas Cunningham, Lemuel Boyd, Edward Mace and Thomas Kearns. These men acted as the County Board and transacted the county business. Source: Warren County Centennial 1927 by Cecil E. Haupt. Date 8/24/1927 Later in the1860 Pickaway Co., OH census there is a Samuel Boyd listed: 745/746 Samuel Boyd 82 Ireland Nancy Ann 42 OH James E. 19 OH Samel G or A 17 OH Charles Elrick 5 OH Margaret 3 OH In Pickaway County Abstracts of Wills, 1808-1892: Samuel BOYD, mentions wife, children James, Samuel and their heirs. Made Jan _, 1858; Wit's. Alfred Cartmill & Edeard Fitsgerald; Probated Dec. 29, 1862. If anyone have connections to these Boyd families, I would love to hear from you.
