Folks, It has been a long time since I posted anything to this list. My earliest known BOYD ancestor is James BOYD b. abt. 1740 in Knocknavaddy Rock, Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland and m. in 1760 Nancy WEIR b. about 1750 in Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. In Dec. 1794 James and Nancy with their children, Samuel born abt. 1783 and William born abt 1785, boarded a cargo ship, The IRISH VOLUNTEER, which was bound for Charleston, South Carolina. Nancy was pregnant when they departed and gave birth on March 17, 1795 to a girl they named Margaret on board the ship in Charleston Harbor. The family originally settled in Abbeville District, SC and later moved to Laurens County, SC some time prior to 1808. In 1808 James petioned for and was granted US Citizenship. In 1816 their son , William, my 3rd Great - Grandfather, met and married Elizabeth Burton ,b. abt 1798 in Laurens County, SC. the entire family then migrated to Hall County, GA abt 1817 where all of William and Elizabeth's Children were born. Their children are as follows James b. 1817,Samuel Newton b. 1818 , Wier, my 2nd Great-Grandfather, b.September 14. 1820 and Rachel b. 1823. From Hall County they moved to Gwinnett County where Elizabeth died in 1826. The family then moved to Forsyth County and finally to Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, GA. David D. Boyd CBI member 749
