    3. Well, this is really interesting. Over the years I have made stabs at finding out more about them. I have not had much luck however, I've tried to use some of the sites posted here, and other resources, even the Mormon church. So, how would I go about finding the civil war records? I agree with the fact of so many of the same name, especially James. Thanks to everyone Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane C. 3. Jeff, there are a number of ways to find information on the Civil War. Nearly any large library that has a genealogy area should have the Civil War indices, there are more than a dozen volumes. another way is to contact a local Civil War Society and or the local Historical Society. They would either have the collection mentioned or point you in the right direction. You will ultimately be guided to the National Archives. this is now taking orders for pension and service records on-line, however you will need to locate the record and call numbers to order. You may want to consider taking a class, local or on-line, or getting a book in researching military records, there is a good deal of information in these old records and it is easy to miss the one you want if you are not familiar with what is available and where it is located.
