    1. William Y. Boyd

    3. Hi All, I am still looking for a positive link to the parents of William Y. Boyd, b. 1801, who married Barbara Shetler. They had a son named John. The parents listed in Rootsweb are incorrect since the census information lists that William was born in PA. Mariann ----- Original Message ----- From: JodieK444@aol.com To: CLANBOYD-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, May 01, 2005 11:11 PM Subject: [Boyd] Family of H.G. Boyd of Cleburne Co., AL I received a wonderful reponse from Karen in Ohio (she always gives wonderful responses) on my query about the marriage of H.G. Boyd to Miss Fay Beason in Cleburne County, AL on Feb. 18, 1920. This marriage was noted in the Cleburne News (newspaper) in the issue of Thursday, Feb. 26, 1920. I was curious as to which Boyd family this gentleman belonged. Karen researched the censuses back to 1870 and the Alabama Death Index and found that H. G. Boyd was more than likely Henry Grady Boyd (b. Feb. 1891 in AL), son of John M. (b. abt 1861 in AL) and Ida Boyd of Cleburne County. Karen's research also showed that John M. Boyd was more than likely the son of William (b. abt 1823 in SC) and Mary J. Boyd who appear in the 1870 census with a son, John M. Boyd. Two files on Rootsweb show William Boyd and Mary Jane Smith were married in Meriwether County, GA 5 Feb. 1843 and moved to Cleburne County, AL. One file shows their census record in the 1850 Cleburne County census. They had a son named John Morgan Boyd and he had a son named Henry Grady Boyd. The ancestor trail ends here on both files, but these would appear to be the ancestors of this Henry Grady Boyd who married Fay Beason. Another person had written to me several years ago, also seeking ancestors of William Boyd b. 28 Dec 1822 who married Mary Jane Smith in Meriwether in 1843 and who also moved to Cleburne. William and Mary Jane are said to be buried "south of Heflin, Alabama, near Boyd's Mountain." This would appear to be the family of the above Henry Grady Boyd. I have a "dangling" William Boyd from Meriwether who I have not been able to trace and he has family names similar to those William Boyd and Mary Jane Smith gave their children. Karen's census research (1870) shows some of the names to be Nancy A., Mary E., William B., Joseph J., Matthew, Lucy, John M., Sarah A. and Decater. The Rootsweb files list the children's names as: John Robert, Nancy Ann, Louisa, Mary Elizabeth, William B., Margaret J., Joseph Jefferson, Matthew Allen, Lucy T., John Morgan, Sarah A., Stephen Decatur, and James Thomas. The Heritage of Cleburne County, Alabama (book), lists the same above children of William Boyd and Mary Jane Smith. This would appear to be the same family Karen found and is the family of the H.G. Boyd who married Fay Beason.. My "dangling" William Boyd from Meriwether is William H.B. Boyd, son of Robert H. Boyd (1791-1857) and Chloretta D. Gray, and the grandson of Hugh and Jennet Boyd of Newberry Dist., SC. William had paternal aunts and uncles (Boyds) named Matthew, John Montgomery, Jane, Hugh and Rosanna. His maternal aunts and uncles (Grays) were George, William, Henry, John Frederick, Washington, Dorothy, Thomas Jefferson, Jane and Mary Ann. My last record of William H.B. Boyd is when he sold 101-1/4 acres of land in Land Lot 271 in the Upper Ninth District of Meriwether to his father, Robert H. Boyd, in October of 1850. This could have been because he had already moved to Alabama. But I don't really know that. Robert had sold the west half of Land Lot 271 to William H. B. Boyd in August of 1849. William's siblings were Frederick G. Boyd, b. 1816 (married Elizabeth Irvin in Pike Co.), Mary E. Boyd, b. 1823 (married unknown White and died at age 25), Julia Boyd b. 1831 (married Benjamin White who could have been her sisters widower); Amanda M. Boyd b. 1833 (died at age 17), and McDuffie C. Boyd b. 1836 (who married Mrs. Amanda (Herndon) Brooks. Does anyone have any ancestral information on William Boyd and Mary Jane Smith? Or William H.B. Boyd son of Robert and Chloretta Gray Boyd? Any info appreciated.
