The First two look similiar and there is no blue in them as for the ancient it is a muted version of the first two. However, there is an Ayrshire District Tartan which is has a large amount of Blue along with red, Green, Black, yellow and white. The Boyd Standard and Modern is largely Red with Green, Black and yellow. The Boyds in Ayrshire Scotland probably wore either a Stewart Tartan or The Ayrshire District Tartan prior to 1956 when the 6th Baron Kilmarnock Gilbert Rowland Boyd designed the present Boyd Tartan. 2. Thank you thank you. You have returned my self confidence. My Boyds were from Ayrshire so it is reasonable they might have worn the Ayrshire District Tartan as well as a Stewart Tartan. 2. I have tracked down the Ayrshire District Tartan and it seems from the image that it is what I have. I am learning more than I ever knew about the designs--overchecks and underchecks and thread counts. It's fascinating. Now I want to find out what they stand.
