    3. When were you a child? If the tartan looked like Royal Stewart then it probably was Royal Stewart. A few years back Stewart tartan was available everywhere. My kilt took almost six months for delivery because the Boyd tartan had to be woven. It was not popular enough to keep on hand. Technically a tartan can be any color. The thread count is what has to be correct. The modern Boyd tartan is again, mainly red with some blue, green and yellow. If you want to see a picture go to www.tartans.scotland.net and type in Boyd. You will have two choices. The Boyd family tartan is the one Lord Kilmarnock designed. 2. I remember my Dad saying the Boyds wore the Stewart, either hunting or dress because they were a part of the Stewart clan. Someone at the Highland Games Boyd tent at Grandfather's Mt. told me the same. As to when I was a child! too long ago to count. But it was in 1976 that I bought the so-called Boyd tartan at St. Andrews. 1. Re: [Boyd] blue dye
    2. Explain what you mean when you say it doesn't matter what the color is as long as the thread count is correct. Do you mean the spacing between the colors?

    08/16/2005 09:39:07
    1. Boyd Tartan
    2. Rich
    3. Joe, and others. I went to the site Joe gave www.tartans.scotland.net and both tartans they show have a blue (more like a purple) color in them. My Boyd kilt has no blue color at all. I also have a Boyd tartan hat, a couple of Boyd Banners we use at the games, and a Boyd tartan tie and none of these have any blue at all. I have been hosting and attending games for only about 18 years but all the Boyd tartan I have ever seen has no blue. The Boyd tartan which is on the House of Boyd Society web site has no blue what so ever and is identical to mine. And you are correct when you say thread count is more important which I beleive is what is referred to as a "sett". 2. Well, I guess I'll have to take a picture of my skirt and someone may be able to tell me what they sold me! It sure is blue with an orange and cream stripe but now I'm having an identity crisis.
