    3. Thanks, that agrees with what I have heard before too. At least part of as far as being a new tartan and not ancient! -----Original Message----- From: Joe Williams [mailto:joekate@direcway.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 2:44 PM To: CLANBOYD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Boyd] blue dye There was not an ancient Boyd Tartan, as a matter of fact there was no Boyd tartan until it was designed in the 1950's by the current Chieftains father, Gilbert Allan Rowland Boyd. He assumed the title after the murder of his brother Josslyn Victor Hay who held both Boyd and Hay titles. The next in line was his sister but the Boyd title would not pass to a woman. The younger brother Gilbert accepted the Boyd title and had his name changed from Hay to Boyd. The Boyd tartan is predominantly red but has blue, green and yellow. I was told when I first purchased my kilt that it was fashioned after the Brodie tartan with some adjustments. Joe Boyd Williams I have seen what is called an ancient Boyd tartan but it is only the modern tartan woven with faded wool. ----- Original Message ----- From: <agfoster@headscheme.com> To: <CLANBOYD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 12:37 PM Subject: Re: [Boyd] blue dye > Well it's interesting that the St. Andrew's woolen warehouse had a book > with the Boyd tartan in it and I have seen it in other books as well and > it is clearly blue. > > On Aug 16, 2005, at 1:39 PM, Quint Hart wrote: > >> Remember most Clans have at least 2 different Tartans. 2. The tartan ebooks show the Boyd tartan as designed in 1956. So maybe the Stewart was actually what my dad bought and grandmother made. Anyway, we surely were a cute foursome.
