Hi Maria. I have a John Boyd, b. 1840 in Maryland, who moved his family to Martinsburg, WV around 1860-1870. He had a son named John, b. abt. 1870, but I'm thinking that this is way after the John that you're looking for. The John b. 1840 was found in a census in 1850 with assumably his father, Robert and mother Mary in Baltimore and in 1860 census with no parents but a John Boyd, 72, b. Scotland. This John, 72, was a dealer in malt beverages. He had several other families living with or around him that were also in the brewing industry. (Let me interject that I'm assuming that this is his family. I am still looking to try and prove it.) Between, John (b. 1840) 1860-1870 married and moved to Martinsburg where my grandfather and other children were born. Does any of this connect with you? As far as I can tell - this John Boyd was not a direct descendant of Capt. Robert.....but perhaps a cousin????? Elijah (m Phebe Hayes) and Elisha Boyd were both part of this John's family.
