    3. Jerri Lynn and I wish you the best for the year 2005. We hope you make some huge strides with your family research. In fact--why don't we post our brick walls to this list now. Everybody has one. Mine is below. Please type Brick Walls in the subject line. =================================================== My earliest ancestor is John Boyd who married Margaret(Jennie)Long in Suffolk county, Boston Massachusetts 11 April 1731. I can't seem to get back to Ireland or Scotland with my Boyds. But I have them traced forward down to today. I don't know who John's father is. I have always thought it was Capt. James Boyd who fought in the Scot's Dutch Brigade in Holland. A few years ago I purchased the 3 volume set of books on the history brigade. I found Capt. James Boyd in the records and his brother Charles but no family data at all. The last record of Capt. James is in 1704 when Arthur S. Boyd claims he went to Ulster in Ireland. Arthur S. Boyd Jr's 1924 book "History of the Boyd Clan" says Capt. James had 3 sons, James, William and John who came to the Colonies or New England during 1720s. He claims one of these sons, James, went into Maine (Arthur's ancestor)but he shows no proof this James is a son of Capt. James Boyd. He also states that William Boyd disembarked ship on Block Island, Rhode Island and that John Boyd entered Boston. And therein lies my dilema. I can't prove my John Boyd is this John Boyd who married Margaret Long. Some have said that my John Boyd probably came to New England with the Scots-Irish migrations starting 1718. But these Scots settled in New Hampshire. Did my John Boyd prefer the city life? More opportunities there? I don't know but he left Taunton, Mass and settled in Upton, Mass near Worcestor. In 1862 he is living in Shelburne Falls, Mass many miles further inland and doesn't seem to be a part of the Scots-Irish settlements. Does anyone have a John Boyd in very early Massachusetts? Richard G. Boyd

His parents' names are listed on his death cert. as shown above. Both William Sr. and Maria born in NH. Cannot find either one.
