I guess it would help if a person wasn't sure of a connexion. That is a thing which DNA testing shows, whether the 'paper' connection and the 'blood' connection are the same, or different. Often someone is a family would take someone else's baby (illegitimate) to raise, and never tell the other about it. Or after a divorce, when kids are young, go back to mother's maiden name, and they aren't told about it.
