Paterson (city) is in Passaic COunty next to Essex County, nr Newark. Paterson was an industrial city, esp. textiles (still is). Developed by Alex. Hamilton I believe from stories of my father. Passaic Co. was formed in 1837 from Bergen & Essex counties. The only records the county has is divorce records from 1947, civil court records (law suits) from 1900, and some land records. You might want to look in Essex County (Newark) - the county clerk has marriage records from 1795-1886, civil court records from 1936; Clerk of the Superior Court has divorce records...Co. Surr. has probate records; Registrar of Deeds has land records.
