Hullo Sally.. True about the Boyd's being everywhere..was in Panama City in 1971, and saw a sign advertising Boyd Ship Brokers..descendents from those that survived the building of the Canal perhaps. David, Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any of your family in the Boyd Trees Project. However, if you send me a GEDCOM or FTM file of them, then I could include them as well. Boyd Trees is a data base devoted to any family tree that includes the surname BOYD. Hullo Natalie... I have just moved to the village of Waipu in northern New Zealand, settled during the 1870's by a break away group from the Church of Scotland led by the Rev. Norman McLeod. In this migration to NZ from Nova Scotia were Boyd family, though not my own. There are in this area still Boyd folk, in fact a Boyd Road, and I wonder if you perhaps are related to these Boyd's from Nova Scotia. They are only a phone call away, so if you wish , and they have an internet connection, you could be put in touch with them. Hi Rita, At this time I have nothing to add to the information you gave about your great-grandparents, but will keep my eyes open and get back to you if I find anything. Its possible because of the Terre Haute connection that they could be related. Lura "Ethel" (Robinson) Boyd was a first cousin to my maternal grandmother. Thanks. Hi Sally....good to hear from you. Did you enjoy Conference? We just moved to Orem, Utah in November from Panama City, Florida where we lived for 18 years. And....this is a coincidence, I graduated from high school in Anchorage, Alaska......a long time ago. Anyway...I have a Loyalist ancestor...Henry Magee who came to America pretty early and settled in Pennsylvania. Had a grist mill (didn't everyone???)...refused to grind wheat for the local guys and was thrown in jail....escaped and eventually found his way to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In the meantime....back at the ranch....(the grist mill)...his wife and two children were forced of the land and walked (at least that's the story) with help along the way from Quakers...and eventually was reunited with Henry in Nova Scotia (after a period of about 5 years, I believe). Henry's wife's name was Nora BOYD. I haven't found where they were married yet....it might have been in Pennsylvania....I just don't know for sure. I have a copy of his Loyalist claims, etc....claiming he was from Enniskillen in Ireland...county Armaugh.....and yet, his tombstone says Fermanaugh. I would THINK his Loyalist papers would be accurate. Or, perhaps, he really was born in Fermanaugh and went to Armaugh and left for America from there. Where in Alaska do you live? Hi Natalie, Small world, isn't it?!! We live in Soldotna, Alaska, on the Kenai Peninsula. I've been here since 1968, having moved from Massachusetts where I still have a sister living. I have a son in Wellsville, Utah, and two more up here. My husband's 6 children are spread out from here to California, New Mexico, Colorado, and Virginia so we make excursions to about everywhere in the U.S. Doesn't look like I can help you much on the BOYD line. My John, although he was a stage (mail) driver and later a constable in Flushing, NY, seems to have dropped in from the sky: his death card says he was born in Wilmington, NC, but after extensive research there we have found no trace of him. Best of luck with your own research; there seem to be BOYDs everywhere! Would love to keep in touch. Sally O.
Been in Utah for General Conference of the Church, so am a little late, but WELCOME, Thomas J. BOYD. My John BOYD goes back to Flushing, NY (d 1865) with a son, Elijah, and family moving to Natchez, Miss. Good luck with your research. Sally O. in Alaska
