Yes to both! I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state and there are so many birds here that it is difficult not to be a bird watcher. I keep feeders in the yard (when the bears don't steal them) and binoculars in every room. It seemed like the only thing to do when I bought an expensive zoom for my camera just to get shots of the eagles.
