Hi Everyone, This is forwarded to you, compliments of Jim Allen. The info and URL for "Word on the Street" was posted by Nancy to the MS-SCOTS list: "How ordinary Scots in bygone days found out what was happening; National Library of Scotland - Broadsides: Broadsides are single sheets of paper, printed on one side, to be read unfolded. They carried public information such as proclamations as well as ballads and news of the day. Cheaply available, they were sold on the streets by pedlars and chapmen. Broadsides offer a valuable insight into many aspects of the society they were published in, and the National Library of Scotland holds over 250,000 of them." http://www.nls.uk/broadsides/index.html A search of the site produced some Boyd results...hope you find the site interesting :-) Thanks Jim! Kind Regards, Karen from Ohio, USA
I have a new email address, it is djcole@myfam.com. Until Aug. 1st both the address listed above and my old AOL address are in effect, then only my new one is correct. Thanks, June Boyd Cole
MY Boyd brick wall: William Boyd, was born Nov 1810 in East Kingston, NH. I assume he is descended from the Scots/Irish who settled in NH. Been searching for 3 years for this guy. He moved to Manchester, NH and married Sarah Clark Robertson. He was a butcher and his sons ran a livery stable - Boyd Brothers. On his death cert. from Manchester, NH it lists his parents as William Boyd and Maria C. Lamprey, both born in NH in the late 1700's. It's possible that Maria was married before - I 'm not sure - ran into that problem with another female ancestor whom I was looking for and found she'd had a first marriage...Lamprey may or may not be her birth name. Anyway, no birth cert. or marr. cert. for them in Concord and E.Kingston has nothing. There were a finite number of Boyds in NH at that time - any Williams without recorded marriages? My Thomas Boyds were both born in Northern Ireland and came to the US in 1830. Both were deceased by the fall of 1832. When and where I do not know. They came to Baltimore and from there to Pittsburgh but never made it to Holmes County with the rest of the family. One was 87 and the other 50. Shirley

Dear members, I am a descendent of Andrew Boyd. Census records indicate he was born in Pennsylvania in 1790. He married Ann Vernon (b. 3-22-1802), daughter of Nathaniel Vernon and Grace Mendenhall, in Miami County, Ohio on 5-22-1817. Land records indicate he owned four parcels of land in Darke and Miami counties maybe along the Miami River. They had three children Elizabeth 1835, Sarah 1838, and Margaret 1841. Elizabeth married Andrew warner Michael and they are my GGGrandparents. In the 1850 census the entries show a James and Martha Elliman living with them. In the 1860 census it appears that Ann died during that time and the Ellman family were taking care of Andrew. There is no entry for Andrew in the 1870 census so he must have died between 1860 and 1870. In the 1850 census it listed Andrew occupation as a carpenter. He was of the Quaker faith and there is some information about him. Ann and the Vernons and Mendenhalls but not much. I am looking for any help with information about him, his relatives or any direction you think I should take. Thank you very much for your assistance. Perhaps Andrew left the state and moved West. Many of the early Ohio settlers did. S. Boyd

Is there a Thomas Boyd in your ancestors? A Thomas Boyd purchased land in 1830 and 1832 in that area. Do you know when your Boyds arrived in US? Shirley Boyd shirboy@aol.com
