Hi Everyone, The following is a link forwarded to you, compliments of Jim Allen. For those interested in some of our present day Boyds, click on the link http://www.dhs.gov ...which takes you to the home page for Homeland Security....do a search for the Boyd surname...which will result in three hits referring to Dr. David Boyd, Director of SAFECOM. Then click on "Expand your search" with "Boyd" still in the search box...you will find references and information about other Boyds too who are working within or with our government....very interesting! Thanks for the great link Jim! Kind Regards, Karen from Ohio, USA
Could you possibly send me another gedcom file of your Boyds? I have been seeing some discrepancies concerning the Robert Boyd who was born about 1718 in Ireland and married an Eleanor/Katherine Porterfield. In one instance he had two children, Robert and Esther and Robert died in 1752. In the other Robert had Patrick Boyd and Robert died in 1759. Could Patrick not be his complete name, but really Robert Patrick or Patrick Robert? Did your Robert Boyd marry an Eleanor Porterfield or did he marry a Katherine Porterfield? Maybe we are talking about two separate people, and that there were two Robert Boyds who lived nearby who married two women with the last name of Porterfield and ended up living very near each other. That is the reason why I would like to have a gedcom file of your Boyds so that I can compare it with the other information and files that I have. For those of you who do not receive the Rootsweb review: (A family historian's dream) >>>>>>>>>>>>> Family Bible Finds Its Way Home By Anita Clayton in Port Republic, New Jersey In June I received an e-mail from Jack DAVIS of Pennington, New Jersey, that made me hyperventilate with excitement. He said he had found a December 11, 2000 posting of mine at RootsWeb. The message was one I had put on the NJMonmou-L (Monmouth County, New Jersey) mailing list and mentioned my 3-great-grandmother Mary Ann CONK (born 1803) and her husband Hezekiah AYRES (born 1797), who lived near Crosswicks, near the border of Burlington and Mercer counties, in New Jersey and also Mary Ann's parents John CONK and Sarah RICHMOND, who lived in Howell, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He wrote, "Over the weekend I purchased a small family Bible from the 1860s in a box lot at an auction near Crosswicks. It is Mary Ann (CONK) AYRES' Bible, and lists her children (with birth dates), and also mentions that she is the daughter of John and Sarah CONK." He had done a Google search on AYRES and CONK and found my old message in archives for the list. All the details fit. "If you're interested in having it, I'd be happy to mail it to you in the next week or two." Well, of course I was interested. He continued, "I don't want anything for it -- I paid very little and it would be fun to reunite it with a family member, especially since I'm also interested in genealogy." A couple of weeks later I went to Trenton and met him on the front steps of the New Jersey State Archives, which is near his job. He handed me the small worn, but well-preserved Bible that had been given to my 3- great-grandmother more than 150 years ago. Isn't that exciting? Thanks Jack and RootsWeb! >>>>>>>>> REPRINTS. Have you looked at the actual marriage record? Often times you'll see a family member listed and almost always the area where each the bride and groom live. Also the person performing the ceremony will be listed. Perhaps you will be able to derive some church info there, but more than likely it was a circuit rider. Robin J.
I tried to send this to David's email address, but it was returned so I am using the ClanBoyd email address. Here is my mailing address: Gwendy Dunn 425 Driftwind Drive San Antonio,Texas 78239 Do you have any pictures of any of these Boyds? I don't even have any pictures of my grandfather Walter Andrew Boyd since he died when my mother was only 13 years old and he was separated from my grandmother at that time. I think that my aunt, Dorothy Boyd took a lot of my grandmothers pictures many years ago and some day hope to see some of these and scan them all. Thanks again for your reply. Several weeks ago I had an email from Someone who was collecting all of the obituaries of those who were buried at Lytton Springs,Texas. To make a long story short, she gave me the name of someone who was doing research about the Boyds who were buried there. To make another story short she verified that INDEED I had been researching the correct Boyd family ! The Robert Boyd who married Eleanor/Katherine Porterfield was the correct Boyd line who was directly connected to Robert C. Boyd,George Andrew Boyd, and Walter Andrew Boyd (my grandfather) who are all buried in Lytton Springs. Could anyone who is also researching this same Boyd line please email me and then we can share research. I seem to remember that I was in contact with someone whose first name was David who was connected to this family. I really wish that I could find out more about the Robert Boyd who married Eleanor/Katherine Porterfield, and possibly his parents and/pr grandparents. Thanks very much and good luck with all of your researches, Gwendalynn (Gwendy) Gohlke Dunn
