I think that the legal problems were with the children of Robert and Eleanor Porterfield. According to one source, they had two children, an Esther and Robert , the latter who as born in 1752 either before or shortly after Robert's death in Augusta County,Virginia. I am thinking that I possibly might have the wrong Robert Boyd as my earliest ancestor. I found a Robert Boyd who was born in Ireland about 1718 who married an Eleanor Porterfield either in Ireland or the USA. We don't know when they immigrated. It states that they had two children, an Esther Boyd born in 1750 and Robert Boyd born in 1752 with Robert the father dead in 1752. In another data base I have found both Eleanor and/or Katerine Porterfield marrying Robert Boyd and they had at least one child named Patrick Boyd who was born in 1759 with his father dying in 1759. On another source I found that he was also named Robert Patrick or Patrick Robert all being born in 1759 with his father dying in 1759. I know that there are many mistakes made in censuses as well as data bases and other things where there is data that has been forgotten or recording incorrectly. I am just trying to tighten up all of my loose ends. The family line that I am talking about has Patrick;s wife as Ann McDowell with one of his sons marring a Catherine Ballantine. Both of the marriages of the two Robert Boyds took place in what is know West Virginia. I hope that there is somebody on this list that can clear this up for me so that I can go forward in my research of the Boyds as well as the other surnames that I am researching. Thanks very much, Gwendalynn (Gwendy) Gohlke Dunn
