Madora, would you mind checking on the James's for me. I had a James in Brook Co. VA at Collier's Station. He moved out with his sister Mary Jane Jones and her family. I believe her husband may have received a land grant for his 1812 service. They are from the Alexander ( b circa 1712 ) Boyd family of Cecil Co. MD around West Nottingham and Port Deposit and may have been in VA/WV about 1820, maybe a little earlier. Thank you. Hi Maria. I have a John Boyd, b. 1840 in Maryland, who moved his family to Martinsburg, WV around 1860-1870. He had a son named John, b. abt. 1870, but I'm thinking that this is way after the John that you're looking for. The John b. 1840 was found in a census in 1850 with assumably his father, Robert and mother Mary in Baltimore and in 1860 census with no parents but a John Boyd, 72, b. Scotland. This John, 72, was a dealer in malt beverages. He had several other families living with or around him that were also in the brewing industry. (Let me interject that I'm assuming that this is his family. I am still looking to try and prove it.) Between, John (b. 1840) 1860-1870 married and moved to Martinsburg where my grandfather and other children were born. Does any of this connect with you? I am looking for a Boyd family that came from SC, to Georgia, to Alabama. Robert and Mary Boyd. Mary born in about 1827. Her parents born in SC according to census records. Robert Boyd does not appear on any census records after 1880. Mary buried in Talahousa county Alabama. Two sons born Robert Boyd 1858 and Ross Boyd 1860 in Georgia. Moved to Talahousa county Alabama until 1900's (about). Ross moved on to TX, Robert and Mom stayed in Alabama. If you have any info on this family, I would much appreciate it. I just joined this list so I thought that I would post my BOYD information and see if I can connect up with any other researchers on my particular Boyd lineage. My grandmother, DORIS Boyd, was born in Elizabeth, NJ to ROY Earl Boyd and Ethel POTTS Boyd. ROY was b. in 1898 in Roanoke, VA to JACOB HENRY Boyd and Minnie Pearl SNYDER Boyd. JACOB was born in 1874 in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co, WVA and Minnie was born in Roanoke, VA. Jacob and Minnie had the following children: Leonia, Roy, William, Cecil and Walter. This family left Roanoke, went to Ohio briefly (around the turn of the century), went to NJ and eventually settled in Easton, PA and then Adams Co., PA. As a side note, Jacob pitched for the Washington Senators from 1895-1896. JACOB died in 1932 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Adams Co, PA (Gettysburg). JACOB was born to JOHN (prob. F) Boyd and PHILIPENA C. Boyd. Her maiden name could possibly have been Campbell. JOHN F. BOYD was born abt. 1840 in MD. Philipena was born between between 1846 - 1850 in MD. They had the following children: Anna/Annie, John F/T Jr., Oscella (f), Jacob Henry (above), Daniel and CW. This couple lived in WVA and Roanoke (at least.) I have found a John Boyd, b. abt. 1840 in the 1850 census in BALTIMORE, MD with a Robert (b. 1817) and Mary Boyd. I know that John's mother is Mary because she was living with him in his 1880 census (she was remarried to a Lewis WEBB.) Perhaps this is them? I have also found a John Boyd, b. abt. 1840, in the 1860 census, no mother or father but a JOHN Boyd, 72, b. Scotland was head of the house. Besides the John Boyd in this house, there is a daughter named Mary in both of these censuses, 4 years younger than John. So, now that I've confused everyone, please let me know if you recognize any of these names or locations. I do have marriage registers, licenses, etc. that I'd be happy to share. Happy Hunting! Hi In searching for my William Boyd, I came across the 1860 NH census which lists his children with his wife, Sarah Clark Robertson. It also lists 4 children who could not be hers, might be his from a first marriage, or a brother's who had died. Plus, 3 of the 4 were born in MA. Mary E. Boyd, b. 1834 MA Anna Augusta Boyd, b. 1836 MA Charles W.Boyd, b. 1838 MA Albert O.Boyd, b. 1840 d.1860 buried in Manchester with William and Sarah. * there is also a Sarah O.Boyd b. 1810 d. 1844 buried in the plot. could be a sister of Williams....? any bells ringing for any Boyds?
