    3. Jeri, It might, but more often it would say something like Icelandic or European or a general area which still leaves you wondering. 3. Fellow Listers: Mitochondrial DNA (for females) is far more expensive and cannot be compared to male DNA tests. I have been followinf several other surname lines that are heavily involved in this type of testing (male lines only) and as far as I can see, it only serves to enrich the testing agency. You will not prove too much one way or the other and you will be out all that money. It still comes down to documentation in the end. Hope this helps, Respectfully, Deborah 3 Nails + 1 Cross = 4 Given Jane Sarles wrote: > That is how most of my lines are doing the DNA thing, its true. 2. National Geographic also has DNA testing going on. It's my understanding that the female lineage is traced through the female DNA, and the male lineage is traced through the male DNA. My aunt and uncle, both Boyds, just did the test through National Geo. As I am going thru ancient notes I made in the 60s I ran across this note which might interest some people: Congress, May 8, 1781 RESOLVED: That every chaplain, deemed and certified to the Board of War to be supernumerary, be no longer continued in service and be entitled to have their depreciation made good, and to the half-pay of Captains for life. Officers entitled to half pay: Pennsylvania: Lieut. John Boyd MD: Lieut Thomas BOyd NC: Chaplain Adam Boyd PA: Capt William McKay (this family was related to the Boyds) Anna Grace

None of them was particularly famous or even notorious but they did write letters and diaries, some of which I have or have seen. It's the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy foundation, reconstructing worldwide genealogies. I think they are in Utah. 2. There is an LDS Family History Center here in Newport News, VA. I have found some material there that I didn't have before. I had an interesting day: I received a letter from an old colonial parish here in Matthews County, VA saying that they had my gr. grandfather, Asbury McKendree Boyd recorded as buried at a small country church now known as St. James but formerly Trinity Church, part of a larger parish named Kingston. I'd looked for the Trinity Church but since it no longer exists as such couldn't find it. Today my sister and I went to the St. James (formerly Trinity) cemetery and after much searching, sure enough there it was beside his second wife, Mary Mason Roy Boyd. I don't think anyone on this clan ring is connected except collaterally but it's exciting to find something you've just heard about. Anna Grace Boyd Foster

    3. Anna - that's the fun part of genealogy! Years ago I went to Va, rented a car & drove all over counties there, and I went to the VA State Library. I jumped over streams & waded Rivers in King & Queen Co., Spotslvania, Orange, Botetourt. I found a lot of info, and it was way cool to walk around my 6th gr.grandfathers original 5,000 acres in Spots & Orange...1732 land grant. Part of it was shopping centers & parking lots, but it was interesting to imagine how it was when Anthony owned it.
