You might also ask at your local library. They should be on a national web catalog and could interlibrary loan for you. Jean, The Chapter on the North Umberland Boyd's is limited to the Family of Lieut. Thomas Boyd "who served with Gen. Sullivan's army 1779. The authors Father Hiram Boyd had exchanged information with Mary Boyd brother of Thomas in 1842. Mary tells Hiram that John is supposed to be the ancestor to this family in America. John after parting with his brother Ebenezer in New York City went to Orange County, N.Y then moved to Washintonville, Northumberland Co, PA. He married a Miss Hathorn and had four children. She was not sure of the birthplace Ireland or Scotland. She thought he was born around 1720. The Four Children were: John (oldest) William, Mary and Thomas. John (son) was thought to have been killed by savages while he as out with some soldiers he belonged to. William fell in the Memorial battle of Brandywine Sept 11 1777 while serving with Washington's army. Mary was born 1763 near Washintonville, PA Thomas was born in 1757 near Washintonville, PA. Several pages are dedicated to Thomas's Exploits in the Military. the rest of the Chapter talks about Mary's Children.
My John Boyd, my 2nd great grandfather) b. 1825 d. Aft 1863 married Mary A. Acuff b. Abt 1825 d. Apr 1900 in James Co., TN. They were the parents of 8 children. My great grandfather, William Perry Boyd, was born in Arkansas. There is the possibility that his older sister was also born there. However the other children were all born in Tennessee. The family apparently stayed in TN because that is where my grandfather, Tycus Boyd, was born. He later moved to Arkansas where he met and married my grandmother, Katie Matilda Teel. My mcGaughy line apparently traveled along with the Boyds. There are also people in my line with the middle name Boyd. Does anyone know of any connection?
Just one more tidbit about my Andrew Boyd family. John Boyd, the oldest son of William and Rebecca, served in the 14th W.Va vol. Inf during the civil war. I have his pension file. All his signatures are an X with the words (His Mark) above the X. However his younger brother James, signed all his enlistment papers and there was no X to be found. A very decent hand writing, easily readable. I don't know if his parents could read and write. I don't recall seeing it marked on the census when the question was asked. Maria, Since it was published in 1912 I think it would be difficult to find. I rescued this copy from an old book store about eight years ago. You might try the Library. It makes reference to a copy in the Philadelphia library I believe. Regards, Victor
Has anyone done deep research into the Kilmarnock Boyd clan from the other side--that is: tracing who the main players were there and what happened to the ones who weren't beheaded--there must be records of the fates and adventures of children of the place. Anna Grace Boyd FOster
This is to anyone who might have a connection with the children of David Boyd, son of Andrew or Frederick MD. In looking thru some very old research, I ran across a reference to A. McKendree Boyd going to Oxford for his education. Forty years ago I didn't know enuff to make a note of where that info came from. I do know for a fact that he had connections with men in the British Parliament and in fact I have a painting of him in the alps on a wildflower hike with them and a Congressman from Alabama. Later in life he'd become a textile importer/exporter in Baltimore and went back and forth to Europe/England/Scotland. It occurs to me that if he did go to school abroad maybe some of his siblings did also. His father David was one of the founders of Frederick Female Seminary so obviously they had a lot of respect for education. Anna Grace Boyd Foster

That explains why I can't find him in the 1810 Frederick co. census. I looked again and did find David listed in the 1810 census. It looks like we are talking about 2 different Andrews! Is anyone related to the Northumnerland Co, PA Boyds? My great grandfather was Hugh Boyd and he and his family lived there back in 1840s. He had brothers, William, Robert, Albert (my grandfather), James, Joseph, John, Catherine, Garfield, Edgar, Ann, Mary, Samuel, David and Jennie. It has been rumored that one or more may have been involved with the Molly Maguires. A Boyd was hanged during the revolt era against the owners of the coal miners and the subsequent trials.
