    1. [CLAN-ROSS] Ross Family of Nova Scotia, Canada and Scotland
    2. harak
    3. My paternal Great Grandparents were Arletta Ross and Albert Penny of Clarks Harbour, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Arletta's family goes back to Thomas Ross b-1774 in Scotland. His parents died while at sea and 5 yr old Thomas was taken by another family to Nova Scotia where he was raised, married and had children. He is buried there and I have a picture of his tombstone. I welcome mail from anyone researching this family and any cousins. Thanks Anne. Anne Harrison

    3. Hi there, Does anyone have access to Scotland's People - the site where your credits expire after 90 days if not used (only being redeemable by purchasing more credits :) - who does not intend to use remaining credits and who would like to see them put to good use rather than be "wasted" or forever locked into the apparently vicious cycle of buying more credits? If so I have a lookup request in the birth register for the following person Surname : Ross Forename: Cecil P Sex: Male Year Range: 1890 to 1891 County/city : All records District: All district Please let me know if you can help and I'll let you know whether I need you to go ahead or not. Or has anyone already made a lookup of this person and is able to share the details? Thanks Susan (dsg@picknowl.com.au)

    1. [CLAN-ROSS] Harris-Ross
    2. David and Susan
    3. Hi there, Has anyone come across the Harris-Ross surname? I'm seeking a Cecil Harris-Ross born in the early 1900s. He was from Scotland, but immigrated (India). But the name is so unusual that any others might be related. I'd certainly like to hear from you. Apparently his details were lost after a fire in the Edinburgh records office. Has anyone heard of this fire? is there any way to search for them and get a birth certificate? And does anyone know how/when this double-barreled name might have come about? And has anyone heard of an Austin Motors plant in Scotland in the 1920s/30s? Thanks in advance Susan

    1. [CLAN-ROSS] SURNAME PROBLEM -ROSS WILLIAMSON
    2. Susan Harvey
    3. Hello, I am new to this list as I am having problems with theclan chief line 1903 Miss Ethel Frances WILLIAMSON ROSS established her claim in 1903.On her death in 1957 her sister Miss Rosa ROSS WILLIAMSON ROSS became clan chief she died in 1968 David Campell ROSS is I understand the present Clan Chief. Is his line that of Ballnagowan? What I do not understand is, the sisters above seem to have a different surname ie Ethel WILLIAMSON ROSS Rosa Ross WILLIAMSON ROSS.is this an error or meaningful ? Both sisters were of Pitcalnie and the House of SHANDWICK David CAMPELL ROSS seems a new line. Willliamson Ross could that indicate an earlier marriage or reason for its inclusion as I have both ROSS and WILLIAMSON Can anyone help me unscramble this an indicate where I can find the line from 1903 or earlier to the present? Any help will be great . I hope this is correctly formatted as each List has its own system. Regards, Sue (WiIliamson)

    3. Hi - I've just traced my great-grandfather's family back a couple of generations in Scotland and I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the following names: George Reid Ross, born Nov 4, 1880, Durris, Kincardine, grew up in Aberdeen, moved to Canada (North York, Ontario) before 1916 (I've ordered his Canadian Expeditionary Force war record) His father, Andrew Ross (m Mary Low), born about 1843, Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeenshire, farm labourer, lived in Aberdeen, died April 26, 1929 Andrew's father, Harry Ross (m Mary Scraggie or Scroggie), born in early 1800's, blacksmith, died before 1865 I've obtained considerable information about them from the Scottish genealogy website, but if anyone has these people in their family history or knows of relatives (especially descendents of George Reid Ross), I would appreciate hearing from you! George Reid Ross grew up in Aberdeen at 13 Gilcomston Steps. He had brothers Andrew, William, Alexander, and John, and a sister Mary Ann (married name Mary Laurie, lived as 23 Forbes Street, Aberdeen in 1929). He married Mary Jane Donald on June 12, 1908; at that time he was living at 86 Gerrard Street, Aberdeen. Daphne Hurst

    3. Hello: I'm seeking information about Pitcalnie, Nigg (near Tain, Ross & Cromarty). I know it was a seat of Clan Ross, as was Rarichies. My Fraser ancestors lived in both Pitcalnie and Easter Rarichie in the early 1800s. (1841/51 census) I'm wondering if anyone has any historical material, maps etc about the localities of Pitcalnie and Easter Rarichie? Thank you from Canada, W. Fawcett
