the Index to compiled service records of volunteer Union soldiers who served in organizations from the state of Missouri are found in the Family History Library Catalog under 1. Missouri - Military records - Civil War, 1861-1865 - Indexes I. National Archives microfilm publications ; M0390 In order to locate the compiled service records of a soldier, the unit in which he served must be known, or located thru the use of an index. The Family History Library has a microfilm of the compiled service records of volunteer Union soldiers who served in organizations from the state of Missouri. This "...index contains most of the names of Missouri soldiers to whom references were found in the records used in compiling the service records. Each index card gives the name of the soldier, his rank, and the unit in which he served. Requests for searches by the staff at National Archives and Records Administration should be made on NATF Form 81, Order for Copies of Veterans' Records. You can obtain the NATF Form 81 by providing your name and mailing address inquire@nara.gov. Be sure to specify "Form 81" and the number of forms you need. The fee is $37.50, payable only if the requested records are found. If the record cannot be found, no payment is required. The military records are not microfilmed so you cannot search them yourself.
