Assuming that the Civil War soldier had an obituary published at the time that he was killed in action, would there be any newspapers in New York City, which existed in the 1861-1865 timeframe, still being published today. I am looking for an obit on a soldier, my great grand uncle, Captain Michael Donovan Purtell, who was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, NY, on 19 May 1864.
