    3. I am researching John Whitehead BYRON of the 69th NYSV. He returned to Ireland where he was arrested in Clogheen in September 1865 but subsequently released. I have been told that he had saved the life of Lt Thomas H. O'Brien at the Battle of Fredericksburg and that they remained life long friends ( I think that they may also have been related.) I believe that there are letters from Byron to O'Brien written while the former was in Kilmanhain gaol in Dublin. Byron's relatives in Australia thought he went back to New York where his parents and brothers and sisters had settled. All trace of this branch of the family has however been lost. I have a letter which Byron wrote in Clogheen just prior to his arrest. I"d be interested to hear from anyone who might have information on him. Thank you Anne
